Ex-partner Nick Loeb is taking their custody battle a step further.
The custody battle between Sofia Vergara and her ex Nick Loeb over the actress' frozen embryos has reached ridiculous new levels as a right-to-live lawsuit is filed on their behalf against Sofia. Loeb wants the embryos to be allowed to be born and subsequently raised by him alone.
Sofia Vergara's embryo custody battle rages on
Nick Loeb previously sued for custody of the embryos last year, but it was revealed yesterday (December 6th 2016) that the lawsuit has developed further. The female embryos have been listed as plaintiffs under the names Emma and Isabella and, given that the case is being followed in Louisiana, they've got a good chance of success given that the state has various pro-life laws.

The Columbian-born star also revealed how she made the hunky actor fall in love with her.
Only a month after Sofia Vergara split from ex-fiancé Nick Loeb, it was reported that she was already embarking on a new romance with actor Joe Manganiello, and as they are now in a solid relationship the 'Modern Family' actress reveals some of those awkward first dates.
Joe and Sofia began dating in July
Well, this particular incident wasn't a date, just more of an awkward situation. Unfortunately, when the 'True Blood' star first met Vergara at the White House Correspondents Dinner in May, he was quite clearly photographed checking out her behind, and Vergara addressed this when appearing on the Meredith Vieira Show.
Sofia Vergara is easily the highest paid star in television, earning $37 million last year.
Who said cutthroat corridors of U.S television was a man's world? Sofia Vergara has proved that the era of the disgustingly high-paid leading man (Laurie, Sheen) may well be over, by not only topping the highest paid TV actress list for a tired consecutive , but taking the top-spot overall.

The actress earned $37 million last year, that's some $11 million more than the top-earning TV actor Ashton Kutcher. The Colombian-born star earns a reported $325,000 per episode for 'Modern Family' - way off the reported $1 million per episode deal that Kaley Cuoco signed on 'The Big Bang Theory' - but Vergara's earnings come from endorsements and licensing deals with Diet Pepsi, CoverGirl, Head & Shoulders, AT&T and Synthroid. As Forbes note, the actress is also the co-founder of Latin World Entertainment - a huge multi-million dollar episode.

Jon Favreau's 'Chef' is probably the best movie to be released this weekend.
Jon Favreau's latest movie Chef is very...now. It follows the story of a fine-dining chef in Los Angeles who gets tired of the shackles imposed on him by a money-mad restaurateur and so decides to follow his heart and cook from a food van. It's basically the story of every chef in London. If you love Pitt Cue Co, Hawksmoor, Meat Liquor and Bubbledogs, then you'll love Favreau's new movie.

The 'Modern Family' star will star and executive produce the upcoming ABC comedy, 'Raising Mom'
Sofia Vergara has been handed her own series by ABC; an autobiographical sitcom about a young mother and her 21-year-old son who have to learn how to live life separately following a tightly-knit upbringing. The show, titled Raising Mom, has been influenced by Vergara's own experiences with bringing up her own son, Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara, and is being written by Raising Hope scribe Christine Zander.
Sofia has a good relationship with her son, Manolo
The news of the news series was broken by Deadline last week, who also reported that Vergara will serve as executive producer on the show alongside Zander, Kenchy Ragsdale, Ben Silverman, Jimmy Fox and Luis Balaguer. The show's premise will follow the mother-son dynamic between a single mother and her 21-year-old son who learn that both have done a good job in raising each other over the years as the pair get ready for a life of independence from each other for the first time. The show was devised by Balaguer, who came up with the premise along with Vergara after watching the two grow up together over the last two decades.

Sofia Vergara has become the highest paid television actress for the second year in a row, according to Forbes.
According to Forbes, the list is categorised on a specific time period, "...June 2012 through June 2013-and counts cash only for projects completed and contracts made good on during that time". Vergara's estimated earnings during this time are $30 million, gaining her the title of the highest paid television actress of 2013.
The earnings aren't completely based on the 41 year old's 'Modern Family' salary, in her case it takes into account her endorsement deals with Diet Pepsi and Covergirl as well as her clothing line with Kmart. Marketing deals such as these show that Sofia is doing more than the girls from 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' - who own a successful clothing line with Sears. The sisters are well known for their endorsement deals but even they are not able to compete with Vergara as Kim only raked in a 'modest' $10 million.

The actress is currently on vacation with her husband in The Hamptons, but has been kind enough to share a few photos
Modern Family star Sofia Vergara left little to the imagination when she posted a rather revealing picture of herself on Twitter showing off a considerable amount of her ample behind. The actress is currently on vacation with her fiance Nick Loeb in The Hamptons and shared the snap of herself lapping up the sun on her Twitter account on Saturday (June 15).
Vergara has been keeping her followers updated on Twitter whilst she was away in the exclusive New York retreat, but it was her last update that was accompanied by the caption "Where @keegankillian and @luisbalaguer cant find me!!!☀☀."
The 40-year-old actress has a penchant for stripping down and sharing the photos online - which we aren't going to complain about any time soon - and has recently been telling papers about her tendency to be a bit wild. The beautiful Latin AMerican actress told US Weekly recently, “I do everything in moderation. I try to enjoy life … I don’t believe in crazy diets or exercise. I believe everything in moderation.”

Apparently the JoBros are fans of the 'Modern Family' actress.
The Jonas Brothers (remember them?) have a new single out after a long hiatus and they claim that the inspiration for this one was quite an unusual one.
The upbeat peppy song does sound similar to the pop anthems that first made the JoBros famous, but they’ve come out with a brand new image. According to Nick Jonas “Pom Poms” was one of the last tracks they wrote for the album, with the intention of creating a brighter song to balance out some of the darker material on the record. On a special called “Jonas Brothers: Live with MTV”, the trio explained their inspiration behind the song. Joe joked that it was written with “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara in mind and Nick agreed. Of course, it was all in jest.
Whether or not the song was about the actress though, it’s already gaining momentum online and there’s even talk about a Jonas Brothers comeback. The trio haven’t exactly been keeping still since they first rose to prominence three years ago, of course. According to MTV, while Joe has been working on some solo music, Kevin has starred in his own E! reality series “Married to Jonas” alongside his wife Dani. Meanwhile, Jo, the youngest brother has been performing on Broadway. Now the trio are just about ready for a reunion it seems and with the new album ready and waiting to thrill teenage girls (or maybe they’ll be aiming for a new demographic now?) it won’t be too long before the Jonas World Tour either.
The actress has no qualms about turning to science to have a baby.
Sofia Vergara is planning ahead – way, way ahead apparently – and keeping her eggs on ice. The 40-year-old actress already has a son from, Manolo Gonzalez, from her previous marriage, but her current boyfriend, 37-year-old Loeb doesn’t have any children. You see how the frozen eggs can come in handy then. Vergara told ABC News that it wasn’t an emergency, since she already has her son, but that she just wants to plan ahead. She might want to expand her family with Loeb.
For now, at least, the eggs remain on ice and Vergara is left to dote over her only son. In the interview, she also talked about the scare she experienced during the Boston bombing. Luckily, Manolo wasn’t in the city at the time: "I was very fortunate my son had come on the train to New York to visit his girlfriend [this weekend]," she said. "He immediately texted me because he knows I can get crazy. It's unbelievable. It’s heartbreaking. So much unnecessary pain. Hopefully, they can overcome this horrible thing."
In a chat with Us Magazine, Vergara also shared her opinion about having a kid at her age. The actress has no problem with turning to science for a bit of help, since nothing happens naturally anymore. When asked by the magazine how far along with the process she was, Vergara explained that her eggs were already in the refrigerator, ready and waiting and that they will be fresh, if and when she needs them. We’ll leave you with the delightful mental image that that probably conjured up.

Sofia Vergara has begun the process of freezing her eggs.
Sofia Vergara, the Colombian actress and star of Modern Family, has revealed she is having her eggs frozen as she looks to the future with fiance Nick Loeb. Vergara, 40, told Vogue magazine that she's taking hormone pills as part of the process. "I have to be careful what I eat because they're freezing my eggs!" she said.
Vergara, the highest paid actress on American television, explained of her egg freezing, "They want to get as many good eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they're not good. They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones. My boyfriend [Nick Loeb] is 37, younger than me, never had kids."
The sultry actress , who previously told In Style magazine that she was considering freezing her eggs, has one son, Manolo Gonzales, from a previous marriage in her native South America. She named him after a character from the Al Pacino movie Scarface, "I looooved that movie, and I was in looove with Steven Bauer. And then my son, when he grew up, he was like, 'Oh yeah, Mom, how amazing you named me after a drug-dealer junkie!'" she joked. Manolo is well aware of his mother's plans for another child, though wishes it had come sooner. "You know, sometimes he used to scream at me when he was younger," Sofia explained, "Why can't you have another baby, so you can stop focusing on me?'"

Sofia Vergara and her fiancé Nick Loeb are expecting! With the child being carried by a surrogate mother.
Sofia Vergara and her fiancé Nick Loeb have announced the news that they are going to be parents, with the couple relying on a surrogate to carry their child, the New York Post has revealed. The Modern Family star and her fiancé are said to be in the very early stages of the whole procedure, but are extremely happy with the progress of the process thus far.
A source close to Vergara and Loeb spoke with the NY Post to detail the procedure, telling the paper: 'The child will be biologically Sofia and Nick’s baby, and she has selected a surrogate — who is a very close girlfriend — to carry the baby.' Also speaking to the paper, another source close to the pair added, 'A baby is something they’ve both wanted for a while, particularly Nick, who has been pushing for it. He is a little uneasy that the surrogate is Sofia’s close friend, but is very excited about becoming a father.'
Modern Family star Sofia Vergara missed out on The Oscars this year
Sofia Vergara's illness means her absence was noted from The Oscars. With the glut of Hollywood A-listers who did turn up to the Oscars you wouldn’t think people would be too concerned with who wasn’t there, with enough star power to dissect for weeks to come. That’s not how it works though of course, and so one of the big (well, ok, slightly medium) questions was: where was Sofia Vergara?
The Modern Family actress was a notable absentee from a red carpet otherwise resplendent with the great and the good of the acting world. At one point last week the Daily Mail had reported that the star had actually been hospitalized from a mystery illness – something that has since been widely denied. Still, it seemed like something may well be a-miss, and that was brought into stark focus when the usually ubiquitous actress was missing from the festivities.
Thankfully it appears that the mystery illness is an all-too-familiar one – although not particularly pleasant. Vergara Tweeted during the Oscars on Sunday (February 24, 2013) “Watching the Oscars at home so I dont give everyone the flu haha!” putting an end to all speculation. She still made an effort for the occasion however, posting a picture of herself in leopard print pyjamas and a big comfortable blanket. To be honest, that’s very similar to how we experienced the Oscars this year too.

Sofia Vergara's illness kept her away from The Oscars
Sofia Vergara’s illness was the reason that the Modern Family actress missed out on The Oscars. The 40 year-old kindly decided that she would be better off watching the ceremony on TV, rather than attending and infecting the entire movie industry, in the process. Very thoughtful of her, though we can’t imagine that she would have had too much fun if she was full of flu; some reports have suggested that the Columbian beauty was even hospitalized by the illness.
The New York Post report that Vergara and her fiancé Nick Lobe were spotted at Boa Steakhouse in West Hollywood on the Friday night before The Oscars. Sofia reportedly “beamed” as she was escorted to the car by her beau, after the meal. It looks as though the illness must have hit sometime after Friday night in that case. On Sunday night, Sofia tweeted a picture of herself laying down in bed with one eye shut, with the message “watching the Oscars at home so I don’t give everyone the flu haha” so if she had been hospitalized with the illness, it doesn’t seem that it was serious enough to keep her in. Oh and for the record, Vergara’s commitment to wearing leopard still extends to being ill in bed.
Vergara was recently photographed looking much fitter and healthier on the set of Modern Family, as her character Gloria is seen learning to skate with co-star Ty Burrell. Leopard print skates were, of course, a necessity for the filming of these scenes.

30 Rock probably just about took the spoils in the TV categories of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, with both Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin taking gongs for their respective performances in the comedy; Downton Abbey took a major award in scooping Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and there was also a Lifetime Achievement Honor for Diagnosis Murder man Dick Van Dyke.
Who cares which movies and shows won the Golden Globes? All the star-studded audience were concerned about was which after-parties they'd be hitting first, who'd be offering the best champagne and canapés, and where their best buddies were heading. Heaven forbid that Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Miranda Kerr and Kelly Obsourne would get it wrong and head to the WRONG party. The party that boasted only a handful of photographers camped outside, the party that Bradley Cooper wasn't at, the party didn't have the best goodie bag. You can bet your bottom dollar that the aforementioned stars had their publicists working overtime to work out a perfect after-party schedule.
So who had the best bashes in Beverly Hills on Sunday evening?
Warner Bros and InStyle After-Party @ The Beverly Hilton
Has the Modern Family bubble burst? That might be the question on some critics lists after the ABC comedy failed to retain the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical Or Comedy, despite many expecting it would.
Modern Family instead lost out to the first season of HBO’s Girls, whilst one of its leading lights, Sofia Vergara, again lost out in the Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film. The defeat was part of a wider trend across the television awards that saw all the major networks fail to gain a single win between them, cable shows instead reining supreme. MSN reports that the Modern Family cast put a funny face on defeat, snapping a picture of them all pretending to blub their eyes out, but with the show now four seasons old is there perhaps a hint that the show could be on the wane – not least after it had to battle back from a season opening last September that was down on the previous season’s opening ratings wise?
It’s unlikely, we reckon. The show is still putting the good out ratings wise, and is still proving to be one of ABC’s big hitters. However, given its loss at the Golden Globes we’re not too confident about its chances elsewhere; Modern Family is up for numerous awards at events it won last year, namely the Writers Guild of America Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Producers Guild Of America Awards. It’s won at the last three PGA awards in a row, if that crown slips then it may be time to start asking this question a little more seriously.
Sofia Vergara was NOT happy with fiancé Nick Loeb when he started a fight in a club on New Year’s Eve.
According to New York Daily News, Sofia and Nick had a pretty turbulent night out at the Delano Hotel in Miami, after a party guests spilled a drink on Sofia’s dress and Nick tried to make the man apologize. Nick also didn’t take kindly to Sofia then agreeing to take a flirty photo with the same guy that had spilled his drink on her, it seems. According to the report, Sofia was screaming at Nick, telling him “to stop causing a scene because they were in public,” an eye witness told them.
It was a pretty bad start to the year, then, for the couple that haven’t exactly had the smoothest of relationships. By 3am on New Year’s Day, Loeb found himself getting hauled away from the club’s VIP section by security guards, whilst his fiancée screamed “F*** you!” at him. Classy!

Sofia Vergara's dress was ripped, torn and pulled down during a brawl at the Story nightclub in Miami on New Year's Eve. Her fiance Nick Loeb was thrown out by security after he began fighting with a group at a nearby table, reports the New York Post.
Witnesses say that Loeb got into a heated dispute with the revellers, began pushing and shoving and was subsequently ejected from the building. Vergara - the highest paid actress on television - followed closely behind. An insider said the Columbian star's dress was ruined in the melee, saying "Sofia stepped in to try to calm the situation, but somehow she ended up getting pushed and shoved also. Her strapless dress was torn or pulled down in the melee, exposing her cleavage in front of other people and her son Manolo who was so offended he left the club. It was crazy." Vergara was never hit in the fight, though Nick suffered bruising after the struggle with security. The event was organized by nightlife guru Chris Paciello, whom Vergara dated in the late 1990s.
Earlier in the evening, Modern Family star Vergara had celebrated the New Year at Miami's luxe Delano hotel. She briefly split from Loeb last May, but they reconciled just weeks later. They became engaged in July 2012.
The Peoples Choice Awards give the general public a chance to decide whose acceptance speech they want to hear. Gone are the stuffy critics and 'experts' who normally plump for how good a film, or concentrate on someone's artistic integrity when making award decisions; in are the general public, who like wardrobe malfunctions and when people treat each other awfully.
So who's up for public recognition of the entertainment kind? Perhaps one of the biggest categories is 'favourite movie actor', in which Channing Tatum, Johnny Depp, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Robert Downey Jr. and Will Smith are all in the running. We think Channing will receive the nod because of his recent Sexiest Man Alive award, but we hope Joseph Gordon-Levitt will win, because of his excellent work in Looper. On a more light-hearted note, the people will have Jane Lynch, Kaley Cuoco, Lea Michele, Sofia Vergara and Zooey Deschanel to choose from in the best comedy actress category. We think Kayley Cuoco will win despite being under pressure from Deschanel in her kooky New Girl role. The Big Bang Theory's clout should prevail, though.
The film portion of the night features a list of blockbusters, and is 80% comprised of movies beginning with 'the'; people like stuff with 'the' stuck on. The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hunger Games and Snow White and the Huntsman are fighting it out. We hope Snow White wins. We won't tell you why. Catch the awards live on CBS, January 9th, 2012.
For many celebrities it's pretty much part of the job description to dress up as a character or an alter ego every day of their lives. Lady Gaga's interesting choice of attire can almost always be described as a 'costume'. On Halloween therefore, celebs always go one step further than the rest of us, and also deem it prime-time to ridicule their colleagues, friends and celebrity enemies. This year sees three of the best.
Firstly, Avril Lavigne's ex-husband, Deryck Whimbley, dressed up as her. Chad Kroeger, Lavigne's current fiancée, bit back on Twitter "Hey Deryck loved the costumes! We were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes haha!" Although you think he's joking, the evidence is stacking up to prove that this year's halloween is celebrity themed!
Ellen DeGeneners on her eponymously named chat show 'Ellen', dressed up as Sofia Vergara. She wore a turquoise sequined number, with big false boobs and a massive false bum. "Happy Halloween. As you can see I put my pumpkins out," said Ellen, jokingly. Luckily, Vergara took it all in her stride and found the whole thing hilarious- adding her own spin by reprimanding Ellen in Spanish- which the audience loved.

We can't figure out the more frightening sight: Ellen Degeneres in a dress, or Sofia Vergara. Luckily, or unluckily for some, DeGeneres gave us both simultaneously as she poked fun at Vergara's accent in a ridiculous dress/body suit combo.
Confidently strutting her stuff across the stage in a sparkly blue dress, drawning attention to her fake breasts, large behind and vivacious curves, DeGeneres took a light hearted swipe at the Modern Family star, who hails from Columbia, before Sofia showed up on stage to give the audience a delightfully funny Halloween cameo. "Muchos Gracias everybody," shouted DeGeneres, caked deep in makeup and donning a brunette wig. "Happy Halloween. As you can see I put my pumpkins out," DeGeneres said, mimicking Vergara's accent. DeGeneres proceeded to explain that she thought Vergara's voice was a bit overdone. "I get so much work with this fake accent," DeGeneres declared. A seemingly angry Vergara then emerged and taught Ellen a lesson, in Spanish that is.
The audience loved every minute of it, and were all dressed up in various Halloween costumes themselves. DeGeneres and Vergara, who've partnered for Cover Girl commercials, are apparently close enough friends that they don't mind a spot of light hearted mockery, and it was great to see!

Two-and-a-Half Men is the show that forks out the most for its lead actors; last year Charlie Sheen topped Forbes' list of TV's Highest-Paid TV Actors list with $40m and this year its new lead Ashton Kutcher has taken over the prestigious spot, albeit with a decidedly smaller sum of just $26m.
Hugh Laurie for his role in 'House' and Ray Romano, for a now cancelled 'Men of a Certain Age' were runners up to Kutcher, each raking in $18m. We'd all be happy to plum for second place in this race. Aside from Laurie, it was entirely sitcom actors that scored the bigtime in this list, with stars of 30 Rock, Last Man Standing, Men, and The Big Bang Theory - Alec Baldwin, family favourite Tim Allen, Jon Cryer, and Jim Parsons and Alan Galecki, respectively, all managing to make it into the top ten.
However, as much as it's always great to celebrate in the successes of others, for women in the equivalent category, financial success seems to not be quite so easy. Sophia Vergara from Modern Family is this year's female top earner, but at just (ha! just?) $19m, she's lagging behind Kutcher by $7m! Plus, the genres in which these women find their careers is far more varied than men - still including comedy, but also drama, reality and medical dramas all find their way into the list. Desperate Housewives is one show that truly shows women multitasking, and Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria, two stars of the show, both appear in the top ten. Although men still earn more than women, it seems the ladies can take the prize for versatility.
Columbian actress Sofia Vergara arrives at Manhattan's Kmart Astor Place to promote her fall fashion and home collection for Kmart 'Sofia'. She is first introduced by Jared Eng, editor of JustJared.com who asks the crowd to welcome her to the event. She thanks the audience for coming and even makes a Spanish welcome for her fans back home.
The story starts as we watch Larry, Moe and Curly (Hayes, Diamantopoulos and Sasso) growing up in an orphanage, watched over by Mother Superior (Lynch) and several rather frazzled nuns (including Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson and Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David). But when the orphanage is threatened with closure, the clueless trio heads out to raise the cash needed to save it. They immediately run into the shamelessly wealthy Lydia (Vergara), who hires them to bump off her husband so she can run off with his business partner (Bierko). But of course everything goes crazily wrong.

The Three Stooges is a comic caper, following the lives of three men who were left on the doorstep of an orphanage when they were babies. This updated version of the 1930s vaudeville act of the same name sees the familiar characters of Larry, Moe and Curly try to save their childhood orphanage from closure. In the process, they become embroiled in a bizarre murder plot, as well as finding themselves somehow starring in a phenomenally successful reality TV show.

Mumble (Wood) thinks he's inadequate as a father since his non-dancing son Erik (Acres) feels like such an outsider. So when Erik runs off to visit the guru Lovelace (Williams) and meet flying penguin star Sven (Azaria), Mumble follows.
Meanwhile back home, an ice-shelf collapse has trapped the entire Emperor colony, so now Mumble, Erik and Lovelace's colony must find a solution. Perhaps some passing humans can help. Or a gang of tetchy sea elephants. Or maybe it'll be down to two renegade krills (Pitt and Damon) who are trying to find their individuality.

While the Emperor penguins of Antarctica find their mate by singing their 'heartsong', Mumble is different. Instead of singing, he has a talent for tap-dancing and it was this that won the affections of his old friend Gloria. His unique gift also helped ban overfishing in Antarctica which saved the fish population from extinction.

The story is a balls-out revenge tale, opening with the violent death of kindhearted old mother Evelyn Mercer (Fionnula Flanagan) during a convenience store hold-up. Evelyn's funeral brings home her four adopted sons: mercurial bruiser Bobby (Mark Wahlberg), military man Angel (Tyrese), entrepreneurial Jeremiah (Andre Benjamin aka Outkast's Andre 3000), and semi-famous rocker Jack (Garrett Hedlund). Being back home together brings back memories of the "only woman who ever loved us," but also brings back their thuggish ways, especially when they find out mom's tragic accident may have been murder. That's when the fast-based, Charles Bronson-esque vigilante part of this tale kicks into high gear.

Mark Wahlberg is perfectly cast in "Four Brothers" as an angry, scruffy Detroit greaseball who returns home for the first time in years to avenge his foster-mother's murder during a convenience store robbery.
While not an actor known for his emotional range, here his soft-featured scowl embodies resounding heartbreak without giving an inch on the kind of toughness and bravado that makes his character a loose cannon. How loose? He even tells the investigating cops (one an old friend played by the sublime Terrence Howard) who come to pay their respects that "I'm not here for the funeral."
Reunited with his three brothers -- fellow former delinquents adopted by the kindly but adamant Evelyn Mercer (Fionnula Flanagan), and played by Garrett Hedlund ("Troy") and talented rappers-turned-actors Andre Benjamin and Tyrese Gibson -- it isn't long before they're literally beating a path through the ghetto toward any suspects they can get their hands on. And it isn't long after that before a conspiracy begins to emerge (the details of which are never entirely clear) involving bankruptcy and insurance money, connections to the mob, and crooked cops and city councilmen.

2002's "Dogtownand Z-Boys" (now available in an excellentDVD) was an adrenaline-rush history of the Zephyr Skateboarding Team, adaredevil band of teenage surf bums who were the first to take wave-ridingmoves to the streets and empty swimming pools of drought-stricken SantaMonica in the early 1970s.
This handful of young turks (oneof whom became the director of that film andthe writer of this one) invented the board-gripping, back-scratching, wall-climbingstyle that launched the entire rebel culture of extreme sports -- but youwouldn't know it from "Lords of Dogtown," which concerns itselfmore with fabricated love triangles, unhappy home lives and rivalries thatformed when fame came calling.
While the performances of the young cast members -- keyZ-Boys are played by John Robinson from "Elephant,"Emile Hirsch from "TheGirl Next Door" and Victor Rasuk from "RaisingVictor Vargas" -- are multifaceted, they sometimes have the under-rehearsedfeel of a bawdier after-school special. Or maybe that's just the clumsyexpository dialogue: "Hey, I think we should start a skateboard team, man," says one shirtless, long-haired dude to another. "There'smoney in this!"

With its expensive but largely characterless voice castand an off-the-shelf follow-your-dreams plot retooled for a world populatedby wacky sentient machines, the computer-animated "Robots" islucky to have spectacular production design and one or two curious mechanicalstars to hold the interest of anyone over age 10.
Created by Blue Sky Studios and director Chris Wedge --the gang behind 2002's "IceAge" -- the story concerns young robotRodney Copperbottom (voiced by Ewan McGregor), a small-town dreamer madefrom well-worn, hand-me-down parts maintained by his dishwasher dad. He'sa hopeful, wide-eyed inventor who travels to the mega-opolis Robot Cityhoping to sell some of his scrap-metal gadgets to Bigweld Industries, apparentlythe monopoly supplier of all things robotic in this world.
The company was once run by the altruistic and welcomingMr. Bigweld (Mel Brooks), who for no adequately explored reason has withdrawnfrom the company he loved and let it be taken over by a greedy, brushed-steelcorporate suit named Ratchet (Greg Kinnear). This villain has decided todiscontinue all replacement parts Bigweld has always made for the robotpopulation -- all part of a sinister plan to scrap and melt down any "outmodes"who can't afford full-body upgrades.

How apropos it seems that the enjoyably outrageous screwball satire "Big Trouble" should open a little more than a week after the death of Billy Wilder, whose influence is felt all over this picture's breakneck comedic pacing.
Reminiscent, if mostly in spirit, of Wilder's lesser-known "One, Two, Three" -- a fast-paced side-splitter starring James Cagney as an American business man who stumbles into Iron Curtain intrigue in 1961 Berlin -- "Big Trouble" features Tim Allen as a fired, freshly divorced newspaper columnist who narrates a lunatic tale of arms trading and assassination attempts in modern Miami.
As one of a dozen characters with equal screen time, Allen's connection to the plot is almost peripheral, but he gives great voice-over (from the zany Dave Barry book on which the film is based) that helps keep straight the cavalcade of well-cast kooks to come.

It may be crude, it may be lewd, it's certainly slapdash and stupid, but the steadily and readily hilarious "Soul Plane" stays in the air on nothing but a jet-powered fuel of out-loud laughs from very lowbrow comedy.
The flick takes place onboard the maiden flight of NWA, the first black-owned airline, started by an obnoxious layabout (the forgettable Kevin Hart) who trots out a sob story and wins an excessive $100 million award in a lawsuit against another air carrier after getting stuck in 747 toilet. (Well, that and a luggage compartment depressurized in flight, sucking his checked dog into an engine.)
It's a plotless premise on which to hang a string of largely unrelated gags, but with such a traffic jam of ribald cultural raillery, the movie actually is at its worst when newbie director Jessy Terrero tries to shoehorn in an off-the-shelf romantic subplot between the jokes.
