Snoop Dogg was carrying around eight grams of pot as he passed through Oslo airport in Norway, on Thursday (June 28, 2012), reports the Associated Press. The rapper was thwarted by sniffer dogs, though it was what police found in his wallet that eventually cost him more than the wayward weed.
It turns out, the bigger problem for Snoop was the amount of undeclared cash that he was hauling with him, as he embarked on his seven-stop tour in Europe. Snoop was fined around $8,600 for the violations, with only a small fraction of that attributed to the drugs that he was carrying. Snoop was briefly detained, though was let go after paying the fine. He eventually turned up five hours late to the event that he was headlining. According to E! News, Snoop gave a creative explanation for his lateness, saying, "I was late 'cause I went to go get some chicken wings . 'cause I wanted to see Norway up close and personal, and visit an old folks' home.I went to visit a convalescent home. That's why I was late". It's probably a good thing that Snoop was caught with the drugs in Norway, where possession of up to 15 grams of marijuana is punishable only by a fine, and not jail.
During an interview with Larry King in 2010, Snoop was asked whether he could perform properly after getting high. The Californian rapper replied, "How about I've never performed without it?".
