Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed reports they are reuniting, and singer Billy Corgan is already writing material for a new album.

The TONIGHT TONIGHT rockers, who split in 2000, previously hinted they were considering getting back together for Chicago rock festival Lollapalooza this summer (AUG06).

And although original bassist D'ARCY WRETZKY is proving elusive, her replacement Melissa Auf der Maur is keen to join her former bandmates.

Wretzky's replacement tells MTV, "My services are there for him whenever he needs them.

"I love the Pumpkins, and to play those songs again would be nothing but fun for me. It was a big part of my life.

"The coolest thing would be if D'Arcy was around, but I don't know where she's at and I don't think (Corgan or drummer Jimmy Chamberlain) do either.

"But I feel very comfortable being second best."
