Smashing Pumpkins rocker Billy Corgan has thrown his support behind a campaign to raise money for a film about Butch Vig's recording studio.

The Garbage star and celebrated rock producer set up Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin in 1983 with his bandmate Steve Marker, and groups including Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins have recorded there over the years.

A music engineer-turned-film director is now making a movie about the fabled facility, and Corgan has thrown his backing behind the project.

He took to Twitter.com to share a link to Wendy Schneider's fundraising page on Kickstarter.com and urged fans to donate.

On Tuesday (25Feb14), the campaign had raised $16,665 (£10,416) of a $120,000 (£75,000) target.
