Sir Paul McCartney, Sting and REM are teaming up for a charity album to help impoverished people in Myanmar.

Profits from the sale of the double CD featuring 27 tracks will benefit the group US CAMPAIGN FOR BURMA - Myanmar's previous name - as they fight for an end to the military dictatorship in the Asian nation.

Eric Clapton, who has also signed up, says, "Anytime anyone inside Burma listens to my music, I want them to know that they are listening to an artist that supports their freedom."

The LP - titled FOR THE LADY - is due to be released in America on 26 October (04).

It will be dedicated to freedom fighter AUNG SAN SUU KYI, who is currently in jail for speaking out against his country's military regime.
