The estranged husband of Sir Paul McCartney's girlfriend NANCY SHEVELL is running for New York City mayor.
Prompted by reports of her relationship with the former Beatle, Shevell confirmed she had legally separated from Bruce Blakeman last year (07).
And now Blakeman - Shevell's husband of 23 years - wants to take charge of the Big Apple.
He confirmed the news to the New York Post on Tuesday (09Sep08), saying: "I am going to be running for mayor."
And Blakeman insists he aims to follow in the footsteps of the city's current mayor, Michael Bloomberg and his predecessor, Rudy Giuliani, adding: "I think there's a real desire for continuity."
Blakeman has formerly held the post of presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature. He last ran, and was defeated, for office in 1998 as the Republican nominee for state controller.
