It’s rare for Paul McCartney to postpone tour dates. The former Beatle has becoming known as a juggernaut on the road, performing consecutive shows across the globe in a musical career that spans seven decades. He is 71. He turns 72 in June.

Of course that incredible run of consistency had to come to a halt at some point, and his latest illness in Japan marks a rare postponement of dates. Shows at Tokyo's National Stadium, which were originally planned for May 18 and 19 will be rescheduled. Shows scheduled for May 21, at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan, and May 24, at Osaka's Yanmar Stadium Nagai, have also been put back.

Paul McCartney's Wife Nancy Never Left His Side

“Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo. He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days rest. Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world,” read a statement released on the singer’s official website.

When McCartney realised he would have to reschedule dates due to his illness, he wrote to the fans: "Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I'd be feeling better today. I'm so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down." Sankei Sports, a local newspaper, reported that he had been vomiting and suffering from diarrhoea – not exactly what you want to see on stage.

But McCartney will be feeling good as new soon, which is handy because he’s touring in support of his new album, called ‘New’ which came out last October. His tour is scheduled to continue in Seoul, South Korea before coming to the United States on June 14.
