Sir Paul McCartney can now add doctor to his resume, after receiving an honorary degree from one of America's oldest and most iconic universities.
The former Beatle was presented with the Doctor of Music accolade by top staff at Connecticut's Yale University - the third oldest education institution in the U.S. - on Monday (26May08), in acknowledgement of his musical achievements to date in his 48-year career.
In the prizegiving ceremony, university leaders credited MCCartney with having "awakened a generation, giving a fresh sound to rock, roll, rhythm and blues".
Others who have conferred honorary degrees from the university include British astronomer Martin Rees, Argentine architect Cesar Pelli and American poet John Lawrence Ashbery.
