Sir Paul McCartney's wife Heather Mills has agreed to remove her false leg for a harrowing TV advert designed to illustrate the horrific consequences of human error on the road.

The former model - whose leg was severed below the knee when she was struck by a police motorcycle in 1993 - is eager to help improve road safety by featuring in the commercials, which will be beamed worldwide this year (04), without her prosthetic limb.

Heather, whose mum also lost a leg in a traffic accident, says, "It took one human error to take my leg and one human error to take my mother's. You really can fix this. It's just about more awareness."

The planned ad is the product of the World Health Organisation's year-long focus on traffic safety.
