Skepta - Rescue Me Single Review
Skepta really is a spectacle. Joseph Junior Adenuga, or better known as Skepta in the commercial scene, has already had tremendous success this year. Having released his 3rd Album Doin' it again, he finally caught the attention of the public after many years MC'ing for various producers. With his recent single Bad Boy being his first Top 40 hit, it looks like 2011 may be the year for the emerging Skepta.
Rescue me is a delightfully unusual offering from Skepta. Opening with a guitar, it sounds like the beginning of a Nickelback track but it is his wax lyrical that place a unique stamp upon this. The verses break down into sub-dub territory with a heavy synth backdrop and quite unusual rhymes about Specsavers. The only thing that may hinder this song is the quite singular and repetitive nature of the song. Apart from the rap verses and the samey-chrous, there is nothing more to the song. But this isn't too much of a damaging thing. The chorus is a great example of producing something extremely catchy and relatable. Also, with a whole varied mixture of remixes in tow from dup-step to electro to hard house, Skepta demands that his track is not just limited to the radio.
With recent commercial success from N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, and the hugely successful British grime hip-hop scene, this single can do anything but fail. Skepta asks someone to 'rescue' him but from where we're looking, he needs no rescuing at all. All prepare yourselves to be put under his spell.
