Bloody new movie 300 looks set to become the year's biggest film so far after early Friday (09MAR07) showings sold out across America. Tickets to see the warrior film - about a legendary battle between the Spartans and Persians - at IMAX's 57 supersize screen locations sold out throughout the film's opening day, and many multiplexes also saw a rush for early tickets. Meanwhile, the film snagged a new March weekend record for IMAX ticket sales as many film fans who missed out on the chance to see the movie on the big screen yesterday (09MAR07), booked weekend tickets. Box office experts predict 300 could storm to the top of the film charts on Sunday (11MAR07) with a $50 million (GBP25.6 million) first-weekend take. The film, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel by Sin City creator Frank Miller, stars Phantom Of The Opera star Gerard Butler as the leader of a band of heroic ancient soldiers.
