Simply Red to launch a new album ahead of European tour.
Simply Red are making a spectacular comeback with their first album since 2007, 'Big Love', coming this Summer via East West Records. The album will also mark the 30th anniversary since the release of the band's Platinum certified debut album 'Picture Book'.
Simply Red return with 'Big Love' in June
Since 2007's 'Stay', the band have only released a handful of greatest hits compilations, namely 2008's 'Simply Red 25: The Greatest Hits'. But now they are back fresh from the studio having been working hard at bringing a new sound of Simply Red to the world. Leading 'Big Love' is their brilliant first single 'Shine On'.
'Once I began wondering how Simply Red was going to sound, I started writing songs', says frontman Mick Hucknall, who wrote twelve tracks for this completely original record which is actually the first totally unique collection since they unveiled 'Life' in 1995.
'Big Love' has been produced by Andy Wright who has previously worked with the band on several albums including 'Simplified' and 'Stay'. He also produced Hucknall's debut solo output 'Tribute to Bobby' which was released in 2008.
Now Hucknall has confessed to finding peace with what his band means to their fans and the music industry. 'With 'Stay', I was running away from Simply Red. But now I'm comfortable with the notion of us as a blue-eyed soul group', he says. 'I had to stop myself fighting that idea. Our sound is original, too. I honestly don't know of another band that has pulled so many musical strands together.'
The band have also announced a European tour to take place at the end of the year - October through December - which will see them predominantly performing in Germany and various arenas in the UK, including a three-date residency at London's O2 Arena.
'Big Love' is set to be released on June 2nd 2015.
