Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknell has hit out at pop sensations Coldplay, dubbing their music only suitable "for insomniacs".

The Stars hitmaker insists out of the current generation of chart-toppers, only U2 will survive - blaming record labels for neglecting talent.

He says, "U2 should still be there (in 20 years time), but not many others. The problem is the major labels are too busy pleasing shareholders, which means rapid returns. There's little investment in long-term careers and there are no major icons. Coldplay music is for insomniacs."
