The British actor - who plays Inspector Thompson in the big screen version of the comic - admits he found it hard to contain his laughter when Spielberg was explaining a fight scene because of the director's fame.
He said: "The best moment was one day where he was describing to Andy Serkis how Captain Haddock should beat me up and I was lying on the floor with him holding me by the lapels shaking me, hitting me against the floor. And I was just laughing because it was f***ing Steven Spielberg!"
The 40-year-old star also admits he understands why the 'E.T.' filmmaker is as successful as he has an "aura".
Speaking at Movie-Con, he said: "He's extraordinary. You know within five minutes of working with him why he is where he is. He has this amazing innate... it just comes off him like a big aura. As a fan it was extraordinary to work with him."
'The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn', which stars Jamie Bell as the titular Belgian adventurer, is due for release in December 2011.
