Simon Pegg stars in Hector & The Search For Happiness, a feel good comedy about a London-based psychiatrist who suddenly realises that his inner-city professional life adds up to one thing: unhappiness.

Hector & The Search For HappinessSimon Pegg is searching for happiness in his new movie

So he decided to take off and try and find it for himself, leaving his wife (Rosamund Pike) behind in London as he traverses the earth in persuit of something close to happiness. Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsgård, and Jean Reno also star.

“The uplifting story follows Hector and his quest to find out whether happiness truly exists. It starts with Hector feeling trapped with his mundane daily routine and his neurotic girlfriend Clara so he decides to break away from his sheltered London life and go on a global quest to find out whether happiness truly exists. Will he end up happy? We suspect so, but we’ll have to wait until August to find out,” reads a post on Pegg’s website.

In the trailer we see Pegg’s character head to China initially, presumably to get a handle on what it means to be happy by way of Buddhist teachings. Only, China seems to be closed on Mondays – like barber shops. He then heads to the plains of Africa, only to Skype his wife and have her show “the guys” a bit more than he wanted them to see.

Of course, Hector’s search for happiness leaves one person in his life profoundly unhappy. While he’s in some of the world’s most beautiful locations, she’s trapped in the same rat race he broke free from. Can Hector and Clara both find happiness? We’ll have to wait until August to find out, like Pegg said.
