Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

After the release of The Force Awakens at the end of 2015, Disney and Lucas films didn't mess around delivering the general public its first announcement/teaser for The Last Jedi back at the start of 2016. Now, well over a year later, we finally get to see some proper footage from the upcoming movie.

Many of the key cast from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature in The Last Jedi including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren who famously slaughtered his much-loved father in a face to face battle that made for one of the most pivotal scenes in the history of Star Wars.

As ever with new Star Wars releases, the scrip and the story outline is one of Hollywood's most closely guarded secrets and few official details have been released to the public. We do know that the story will pick up where The Force Awakens ended with Rey going off into a mountainous setting to hunt down Luke Skywalker in a bid to train with him and learn his knowledge.

Star Trek Beyond Review

Excellent

This is where the Star Trek franchise officially shifts from thoughtful drama into thunderous action. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin brings a kinetic energy to this third chapter in the rebooted space saga, leaping between chases and battles to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Combined with constant witty interaction, the film is massively entertaining, even if the plot ultimately feels a bit thin.

It's been three years since the crew of the Enterprise started their five-year mission, and they're in need of a break. So they head to the nearest spaceport for some down-time, which is soon interrupted when Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and his team (Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin) are called to travel through a dangerous nebula to rescue a kidnapped crew from a villainous thug called Krall (Idris Elba). On arrival, the Enterprise is overwhelmed by Krall's bee-like military swarm. Stranded on a strange planet, the crew teams up with Jaylah (Sofia Boutella), a feisty survivor of one of Krall's earlier attacks. And as they realise the extent of Krall's evil plan, they're not sure that they can stop him.

Star Trek Beyond Trailer

When the Starship Enterprise finds itself under forceful attack, the crew on board fight to their best ability but it's not enough. The unstoppable wave of aliens constantly bombarding the ship means that the crew must accept defeat and flee to an unknown planet. Given the crew were deep into a five year mission, their location to the rest of the Federation is unknown and a rescue mission is going to be far from easy.

Ice Age: Collision Course Review

Good

With its fifth feature-length adventure, this franchise continues its preposterous journey at full tilt. As before, it's the zippy writing, lively vocal work and colourful animation that hold the interest. The story is merely a framework on which the cast and crew can hang a series of rapid-fire jokes, pop culture references and nonsensical action sequences. And it's still mindless fun.

After their previous escapades, the expanding herd of prehistoric critters is living a happy life together, thinking about love. Mammoths Manny and Ellis (voiced by Ray Romano and Queen Latifah) are struggling with the idea that their daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer) has fallen for the too-cheerful Julius (Adam Devine). Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) has just been dumped and feels like he'll never find a partner. And tigers Diego and Shira (Denis Leary and Jennifer Lopez) worry that their violent nature will make them terrible parents. Then suddenly there's a bigger issue to worry about: a giant asteroid is heading for Earth, threatening them with extinction. With the help of nutty weasel Buck (Simon Pegg), they come up with an idea to save the planet. They also discover a magical place called Geotopia, ruled by the groovy Shangri Llama (Jesse Tyler Ferguson).

Yes, the plot is utterly insane, especially as it is driven by the antics of franchise star Scrat, who discovers a flying saucer in the ice, activates it and heads into space, where his acorn-hunting antics trigger all sorts of mayhem back on Earth. But then this series has never had anything to do with science or biology, throwing random animals together (the dinosaurs make another appearance) for comical value while cranking up whatever suspense the writers can think of to add some momentum. They also of course pack scenes with sweet "family values" moments, plus a sideswipe at climate change deniers who refuse to acknowledge the possibility of impending doom.

Simon Pegg Hasn't Fallen Out With George Takei Over Gay Sulu Character

Simon Pegg Star Trek John Cho George Takei

Star Trek script-writer Simon Pegg has defended the decision to portray the character of Hikaru Sulu as openly gay, and has insisted that he and George Takei – the actor who originally played Sulu – haven’t fallen out over the matter.

Speaking at the red carpet premiere in London of Star Trek Beyond on Tuesday (July 12th), Pegg addressed the matter which was revealed at the end of last week, where Takei, himself openly gay and a fervent LGBT rights campaigner, expressed disapproval at the decision to make Sulu, played by John Cho, an openly gay character, insisting that the film’s creators should have written in a new original character.

Star Trek Beyond co-writer Simon Pegg has said he “respectfully disagrees” with George Takei, after the actor called the news that Hikaru Sulu would be gay in the new movie “really unfortunate”. Takei, who is openly gay and played Sulu in the original series and movies, said that the franchise should have made a new character gay, instead of “twisting” Gene Roddenberry’s creation.

In a statement released to The Guardian Pegg said: “I have huge love and respect for George Takei, his heart, courage and humour are an inspiration. However, with regards to his thoughts on our Sulu, I must respectfully disagree with him.”

Simon Pegg Is Determined To Make 'Star Trek Beyond' All About Anton Yelchin

Anton Yelchin Simon Pegg

The show must go on. That's the attitude of bereaved 'Star Trek Beyond' cast member and screenwriter Simon Pegg, who's determined to make the promotional run of the new movie all about the late Anton Yelchin, who tragically passed away at the age of just 27 last month.

Anton YelchinAnton Yelchin is honoured by his 'Star Trek' castmates

'Star Trek' stars are still reeling from the loss of their close friend and colleague; Anton Yelchin protrayed Pavel Chekov in the 2009's 'Star Trek' and 2013's 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and had just completed the latest instalment of the franchise when he died suddenly in a freak car accident at his San Fernando Valley home on June 19th 2016. Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty, is refusing to let his memory be forgotten.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Review

Essential

Appealing both to a new generation of viewers and fans of the series since the beginning, this 30-years-later sequel to 1983's Return of the Jedi is a thrilling adventure. Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has managed to capture the tone of the original trilogy while telling a story about young, vibrant new characters whose connection to the overall saga deepens intriguingly as events unfurl.

Over the past three decades, the Empire has regrouped, forming the First Order to crush the Old Republic for good. And the plucky Rebellion hasn't offered much resistance since leader Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) disappeared. The Empire's top henchman Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is searching for him just as diligently as the rebel leader General Leia (Carrie Fisher). But the real action is happening out of their grasp, as disaffected storm trooper Finn (John Boyega) teams up with rebel pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac) and then feisty scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) and expressive droid BB-8. Along the way, Han Solo and Chewbacca (Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew) find themselves back in the fray. And everyone is startled when there's a strong stirring in the force.

Abrams beautifully recreates the scruffy, clanky mechanical atmosphere of the original trilogy, infusing scenes with witty banter and John William's soaring score to throw us right back into that familiar galaxy. This includes the saga's main themes: the temptation of power, how true heroism is often accidental, and the tension between parents and children. Combine this with a plot that propels itself with a series of unexpected adventures and battles, all centred on the characters, and the film taps strongly into the teen in all of us.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens TV Spot Trailer

After the victory of the Rebel Alliance over the Galactic Empire and subsequent demolition of The Death Star, you'd imaging life in a certain galaxy would be a little more subdued, but as we soon learn, life for Princess Leia, Luke and Hans wasn't exactly easy following their small yet essential victory.

30 years on and to most citizens - humanoid and alien - the stories of evil Lord Darth Vader and the Jedi Masters are just a legend, a story they tell their children that starts with the well-known overture: 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the Star Wars series and is an additional story to the original Star Wars outline.

The film follows a set of new characters as they join the battle and fight the evil forces once again threatening to destroy their galaxy. The Force Awakens was directed by Jj Abrams and sees a number of cast favourites return to the story including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Edgar Wright And Simon Pegg Set To Combine Again On New Movie

Simon Pegg Edgar Wright Nick Frost

Forget Hector and the Search For Happiness. That was a blip in the otherwise brilliant career of Simon Pegg. And anyway, he’s at his best when working with Edgar Wright – good news, then, that the pair has confirmed a brand new project together.

Edgar Wright Simon PeggEdgar Wright [L] and Simon Pegg [centre] are working together again

“Edgar and I were having a conversation the other day about it, and it has a title and everything. We're kind of into a creative cycle nowm” Pegg said when speaking to Edith Bowman on BBC 6 Music, "We've all got different things [going] on and we know we have to get those things done. The coming-together thing is without question on the table and will happen when we can do it."

Hector And The Search For Happiness Savaged By The Critics

Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg has had an intriguing career. He's been highly praised for his terrific collaborative projects with Edgar Wright, from the British TV series Spaced to the Cornetto Trilogy of twisted English comedies: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. He's also managed to crack Hollywood with recurring roles in big franchises like Mission: Impossible, Ice Age and JJ Abrams' Star Trek.

Hector and the Search for HappinessHector and the Search for Happiness

But his more adventurous projects back home in Britain have struggled to find audiences or critical approval. While How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008) had mixed reviews, Burke and Hare (2010) was called a misfire by both critics and audiences. And then there was 2012's A Fantastic Fear of Everything, which has just a 33% positive rating from critics and an only slightly less terrible 37% from the public.

Simon Pegg Rosamund Pike

Hector and the Search for Happiness, the latest of Simon Pegg's movies that has nothing to do with Edgar Wright, is out on Friday (August 15, 2014) - and it ain't looking good. It's sort of familiar territory for Pegg - he plays a quirky British psychiatrist who becomes increasingly tired with the humdrum of dating Rosamund Pike, having a well-paid job and owning a nice flat in London.

So Hector does what anyone in his situation would do: he embarks on a global quest in the search for happiness. It's based on the novel of the same name - which doubled as a bit of a self-help hit in 2010 - though the movie appears to have bombed with the critics. It currently holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, albeit with the big-hitters yet to wade in.

The Final Projects Of Robin Williams

Robin Williams Ben Stiller Bob Odenkirk Simon Pegg

The death of acting legend and comedic master, Robin Williams, has prompted many tributes from colleagues, friends, family and fans to pour in from around the world as people come to terms with the loss of an icon. The 63-year-old versatile star of such classics as Mrs Doubtfire and Good Will Hunting was found dead at his home on Monday 11 August in what has now been confirmed as suicide by asphyxiation.

James Corden's Gone All USA: But Which Other Comedy Brits Have Flown Across The Pond?

James Corden Martin Freeman Ashley Jensen Simon Pegg Jane Leeves

It looks like British favourite James Corden has successfully sealed his fate as another Brit over on American shores with his appointment as the new host of CBS’ Late Late Show all but confirmed by the broadcaster itself. Of course, just because he’s travelling over to the US to have a go in the host seat of a different studio does not automatically mean he’s going to be a hit and, so far, his selection has not been met with too raucous an applause, mainly because most Americans don’t know who he is.

James Corden
James Corden is said to be the next host of American chat show, The Late Late Show

However, that’s not to say he won’t win his new state-side audience over because, if Corden has proved anything with his British career to date, it’s that he’s not too bad at his job.

Everything We Know About Edgar Wright's 'Baby Driver'

Edgar Wright Simon Pegg Nick Frost Shaun Of The Dead Tim Bevan

After a storm of scepticism surrounding Edgar Wright’s decision to walk away from the future Marvel blockbuster Ant Man, the British director has instead turned his hand to a new project which promises to put a fresh spin on the action-packed crime film. Having shot to directorial superstardom after the incredibly successful ‘Cornetto Trilogy’, his collaboration with long-time friends Simon Pegg and Nick Frost which included the crowd-pleasers Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and World’s End, Wright has found himself as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand directors. Moreover, he has proved that he is unafraid to walk away from a project if he feels strongly perturbed by the direction it is being aimed toward by studio executives.

Edgar Wright At Premiere Of Worlds EndWright left Ant Man after a prolonged dispute over the script

With Wright freed from Ant Man after script disputes, Baby Driver is reportedly being fast-tracked towards production, with the screenplay already being written following the Wright’s 2010 hit Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. Details on the film remain scarce, but a small amount of speculation has been addressed by the director in a series of interviews. As intrigued fans have pointed out, Baby Driver is also the name of a track from the iconic Simon and Garfunkle album Bridge Over Troubled Water. In an interview conducted in 2011, Wright conformed he had written a script that borders on being a musical, admitting that it would in many ways act as a departure for the director in terms of style.

The Boxtrolls are underground creatures feared throughout the town as sinister and dangerous monsters, but in truth they are remarkably kind and so shy that they spend most of their time hiding in the boxes they wear as shells and venturing out at night so that they don't bump into the Cheesebridge residents. All they wish to do is collect discarded rubbish and turn it into incredible machines. Unfortunately, despite their harmlessness, a vicious exterminator named Archibald Snatcher is after their heads when the town's council insists on their removal. Eggs must help save his family, but first he's got to start behaving like a regular boy.

Oscar Animated Shorts: Check Out The Nominees

Simon Pegg Gillian Anderson

Every year, The Academy makes a selection of short films from three separate disciplines: animation, documentary and live action. And while the latter categories are usually filled with hard-hitting, affecting stories, the animation section provides levity.

Mr HublotMr Hublot is a charming story, beautifully framed in a semi-mechanical world

Firstly, we have ‘Mr. Hublot’ – a semi-mechanical man living in a semi-mechanical world. He’s fully endowed with ODC, though, is a recluse and lives a life of order, but when a robot pet comes into his life, things change; no longer is he comfortably nestled in his comfort zone. This is computer animated short from France/Luxemburg, directed by Laurent Witz & Alexandre Espigares. It’s void of dialogue but says plenty with it’s beautiful aesthetic.

Fan Drives 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Writer Bob Orci To Swearing

Simon Pegg Jj Abrams

Here’s the crux of this story: it’s funny when people who shouldn’t really be swearing, swear. Bob Orci – the writer behind the Star Trek sequel, Into Darkess, told a fan to “F*ck off” on a comment section for an article entitled: Star Trek Is Broken: Here Are Ideas On How to Fix It.

This begs the question: why oh why did he even bother clicking on it? “I think the article above is akin to a child acting out against his parents. Makes it tough for some to listen, but since I am a loving parent, I read these comments without anger or resentment, no matter how misguided,” began Orci, clearly peeved that some fans might not like his work.

“Having said that, two biggest Star Treks in a row hard for me to listen to what might otherwise be decent notions to pursue in the future. As I love to say, there is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you don’t. Respect all opinions, always, nonetheless.”

Frank Darabont's New Mob Drama Gets Premiere Date, New Title And Trailer

Ed Burns Frank Darabont Neal McDonough Simon Pegg

Mob City is filmmaker Frank Darabont's take on the novel L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America’s Most Seductive City - a detailed account of post-World War II Los Angeles gripped by corrupt police and a rampant organised crime network. On Tuesday (13 August) TNT announced that the show will be airing on the network on Wednesday 4 December, also revealing a shiny new title and a shiny new trailer to go with the announcement.

Neal McDonough
Neal McDonough's Willaim Parker will try to rid LA of organised crime in the series

The show - originally title Lost Angels - follows the mostly fact-based story of Los Angeles darkest periods; a time when a corrupt police force do little to curtail the gains of the violent criminal world it should be controlling, as it further cements LA as the hub of organised criminal activity on the West Coast. Arriving in the city to free it from this scourge of criminal activity is Police Chief William Parker (Neal McDonough), who has made it his mission to make Los Angeles a city where people can feel safe to walk the streets again.

Early Predictions Peg Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin As Possible Options Warner Bros.' Next Batman

Ryan Gosling Josh Brolin Zack Snyder Jensen Ackles Andrew Lincoln Joseph Gordon-Levitt Simon Pegg

Advance planning for “Man of Steel 2” is well underway and that can only mean one thing – Warner Bross and DC are looking for their next Batman. Sure, they could have teamed up Kale-El with, say, Wonder Woman for their next step towards the franchise to end all franchises – Justice League. As it stands, though, the list of contenders is largely male, white and around the age of 40.

Henry Cavill, Man of Steel Australian Premiere
Predictions abound as to Henry Cavill's co-star in Man of Steel 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, quite a few actors have been considered for the part – from Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles and The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln (could you imagine Rick Grimes as Superman?) to trending names such as Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. More outlandish rumors have even pegged Simon Pegg (ha!) and Daniel Dae Kim as being in the running. As of yet, however, no one is actually in the running.

ITV Match Big Money With Big Talk And Buy The Whole Damn Thing

Simon Pegg Nick Frost

Like something? Buy it. That’s ITV’s new mantra based on the fact that they bought something. Anyway, the channel have snapped up the Shaun of the Dead production company Big Talk for a cool £12.5m. Nice business.

It would be nice to tell you that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost built it from the ground, owned the whole thing and pocketed the lion’s share of that £12,5m, but they were only shareholders, and merely stand to gain a portion of that sum, as do BBC worldwide, who owned 25% of it.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Pegg and Frost, in fact there’s no doom or gloom whatsoever. Their latest film, The World’s End has been a hit with the critics and the pair are now at the top of the comedy ladder, so to speak. Big Talk was responsible for Friday Night Dinner, Rev and Him & Her, and will continue to put those shows out.

The Real Pub Crawl That Inspired Edgar Wright's 'The World's End'

Edgar Wright Simon Pegg Nick Frost Eddie Marsan Martin Freeman Paddy Considine

Edgar Wright's hugely anticipated sci-fi comedy The World's End premieres in London on Wednesday (July 10, 2013) bringing together the British director, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the final time (for the Cornetto trilogy, at least). The movie stars Pegg as an immature 40-something who persuades four friends to undertake a marathon drinking session in a small English town. 12 pubs. 12 pints.

The gang's likely unreachable goal is to make it to the final pub - The World's End - though events taken an unpredictable turn.

What audiences may not be aware of is that Wright's comedy is based on a true life pub crawl he and friends undertook in the 1990s. The filmmaker enlisted some of the finest British actors around - Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan - to play his buddies, though made sure to invite the original pub-crawl line-up to the premiere.

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Write finish up their “Cornetto Trilogy” with World’s End – five childhood friends reunite 20 years on to attempt an epic pub crawl, but soon find out the pub crawl is the least of their worries. Following the success of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, has World’s End managed to capture the spirit that made its predecessors fly?

The early indications are that it very much has, with the reviewers that handed their thoughts in just after the embargo finding it an enjoyable experience. Empire Magazine praise it for "Bravely refusing to rigidly adhere to a formula that has been so successful,” adding that “Wright, Pegg and Frost’s Cornetto Trilogy closer has tonal shifts you won’t expect, but the same beating heart you’ve been craving."

Edgar Wright Promises Surprise Cameo For 'The World's End'

Edgar Wright Simon Pegg Nick Frost

Edgar Wright was speaking to fans in a Yahoo! Q&A session on Friday (May 24) about the upcoming comedy The World's End, the final edition of the much-loved Cornetto trilogy. The filmmaker revealed a few details on the summer release, including the news that there is a special, mystery cameo appearance has been lined-up for audiences.

Wright didn't go into much detail about the planned cameo, wanting to keep it a secret for the movie launch. He mentioned that although long-time collaborator and friend Jessica Hynes, who co-wrote and starred in Spaced with The World's End star Simon Pegg, will not be appearing in the final instalment of the Cornetto series, "there are other cameos. Including a man that has yet to appear in the films."

Alongside Pegg and Cornetto favourite Nick Frost, the film also stars long-time collaborators Martin Freeman (who has featured in all three films), Rafe Spall and Paddy Considine (of Hot Fuzz fame) as well as Eddie Marsan and former Bond girl Rosamund Pike. The movie follows a group of childhood friends who over the years have drifted apart but decide that after 20 years they are to recreate an 'epic pub crawl' in their hometown that bested them first time. As drinking commences though, the group notice a that things aren't quite right and soon things take a turn for the worse and get a little post-apocalyptic, resulting in the boys becoming Earth's only hope for survival.

TNT Pick Up Frank Darabont's 'Lost Angels' Pilot

Frank Darabont Simon Pegg Jon Bernthal

TNT have announced a thoroughly impressive line-up for their fall programming schedule, with Frank Darabont's Lost Angels standing out as one of the most hotly anticipated shows on the list. The show is based primarily on the John Buntin book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City, the true story of the LAPD's decades-long conflict with crime lord Mickey Cohen.
Like the book, Lost Angels is set in set in 1940s and ’50s Los Angeles, when the LAPD was even more corrupt than it is now and the criminal underworld was much closer to the surface of the city than even the most corrupt cops would have wanted. The series executives have maintained that it will remain as true to the book as possible, but will also explore elements of the criminal world that are overlooked in the book, notably the African-American and Hispanic culture that were becoming more prominent by the 1950's.

Jon Bernthal will star in the series

The true-crime series already has an impressive cast lined up for the show, including Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal, playing a former Marine returning from the Second World War, as well as Jeffrey DeMunn, also of Walking Dead fame, and Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia as fellow LAPD officers. Shaun of the Dead and Star Trek star Simon Pegg has also lined up for a guest appearance in the series. A Mickey Cohen has yet to be cast, although River Alexander has been lined up to star as a child version of the gangster in flashback scenes.
Also heading to TNT's programming line-up is S.O.B. (Save Our Business), an reality makeover series featuring entrepreneur and American Inventor star Peter Jones, and Marshal Law: Texas, the latest TV project from Jerry Bruckheimer.

Star Trek Into Darkness Review

Excellent

After his successful re-imagining of the Star Trek universe four years ago, Abrams dives even deeper into the mythology, which is thrilling for fans but might leave newcomers feeling a bit lost. This sequel surges forward with action, drama, romance and a lot of comedy while constantly nodding back to the earlier TV series and films. And the smart screenplay finds ways to deepen all of the characters along the way, as well as offering an unusually complex villain.

The action picks up soon after the first film ends, as Kirk (Pine) is once again in trouble for disobeying the Prime Directive not to interfere with a planet's culture. But his punishment is short-lived, as Starfleet becomes the victim of brutal attacks in London and San Francisco, sending Kirk, his first officer Spock (Quinto) and the gang (Saldana, Urban, Yelchin and Cho, with Pegg following later) into enemy space to chase the villainous John Harrison (Cumberbatch). But of course, there's a much bigger story going on, and Harrison has a reason for his violent behaviour, leading to a series of terrifying showdowns as they all return to earth.

While the script is packed with shadowy characters, there's not much actual "darkness" in this movie. It's a pretty bouncy, energetic ride, continually making us laugh at tetchy interaction and throwaway one-liners, all of which are cleverly character-based rather than merely silly gags. This gives each actor a chance to shine, with Pegg and Urban offering much of the humour with their amusing crankiness, while Saldana provides the stereotypical female emotional beats. As usual, the strongest scenes are between Kirk and Spock, and their shifting bromance is well-played by Pine and especially Quinto. But dominating the whole film is a meaty turn from Cumberbatch as a particularly fearsome nemesis who also happens to be both brainy and openly emotive.

Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer Leaks: Benedict Cumberbatch Plays Khan?

Benedict Cumberbatch Jj Abrams Simon Pegg Star Wars

The first trailer for Jj Abrams' Star Trek sequel Into Darkness has emerged online today (December 5, 2012), with trekkies already drooling all over their keyboards at the menacing voiceover provided by Benedict Cumberbatch. It's been long rumored that the British star plays the iconic villain Khan, though does the trailer lend credence to the speculation?

In a tone not a million miles away from Tom Hardy's Bane in The Dark Knight Rises trailer, Cumberbatch's character forebodingly asserts, "You think your world is safe, it is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you, enjoy these final moments of peace, for I have returned, to have my vengeance.so, shall we begin?" The reference to a 'return' has left Star Trek fans in no doubt that Cumberbatch plays Khan Noonien Singh, a villain genetically engineered to be the perfect human. He is equipped with super strength, superior intellect and is a master strategist. In the trailer, Cumberbatch sits on the captain's chair and basically causes mayhem. The character was portrayed by Ricardo Montalban in both the television episodes and the 1982 movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Though fans appear set on Cumberbatch as Khan, his co-star Simon Pegg categorically denied that was the case during an interview with The Telegraph earlier this year. "It's not Khan. That's a myth. Everyone's saying it is, but it's not. I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me - it's beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them," he said. Cumberbatch himself told Shortlist magazine, "Yep, it's yet another thing I can't talk about [laughs]. I'll tell you this, it's iconic and it's exciting. I'm bored of denying that it's Khan now, because people keep saying it."

Jonathan Ross David Walliams Jimmy Carr Simon Pegg Michael McIntyre

For most people, Halloween means fashioning some kind of mummy outfit out of an old bed sheet that you no longer need. Or popping down the pound shop for a witch’s hat and cheap face paint. It means carving a rudimentary smile in a pumpkin. It means traipsing round the neighbourhood with your children whilst they beg people for confectionary that’s actually worth more than the cheap outfit you hastily dressed them up to go trick or treating. Or it means staying home and pretending that you’re not in, whilst watching a marathon of horror DVDs.

Not if you’re Jonathan Ross though. Oh no. The formerly-disgraced-but-now-sort-of-back-in-everyone’s-good-books TV presenter must be planning to throw one hell (see what we did there) of a party because he’s got workers in transforming his palatial home into some kind of castle, or dungeon. No expense spared for a party at Wossy’s house, folks!

Mumford & Sons ITunes Set Attracts The Stars

Mumford And Sons Emma Watson Simon Pegg Chris Martin Adele One Direction Lana Del Rey Plan B

When Mumford & Sons performed at the iTunes Festival, they probably didn't expect some of the U.K's biggest stars to attend, but that's exactly what happened according to The Sun.

Adele, Chris Martin, Simon Pegg and Emma Watson were all in attendance as the folk-pop quartet bashed out tunes from their latest album, Babel. Company indeed! "We've been all around and now we're home, it feels so good," said Frontman Marcus Mumford. "This is our album launch party, celebrate with us." The band have been touring for years now, and experienced some tough times in some of the far corners of the earth, so they'll be glad to be playing in front of home crowds again. A review of their Roundhouse gig in The Telegraph says: "The show's highlights were when the band loosened their grip on the anthemic jugular. A shimmering Timshel was played unplugged, and the band displayed an enviable mastery of the crowd, who fell deathly silent." Their new album, Babel, which the band describes as "an advert for our live shows" has received mixed reviews, to put it lightly. The Guardian gave their follow up to the incredibly popular debut album, Sign No More, 2 stars. But over in America, where the band is making significant inroads, The Huffington Post described it as "a joy".

The iTunes festival represents 30 days of free music in London, with fans vying for tickets on a competition basis. Acts include One Direction, Lana Del Ray and Plan B.

A Fantastic Fear Of Everything Review

Good
Strikingly designed and directed, this offbeat film feels like a one-man stage show as the entire story's told through an internal monolog. So while we enjoy the witty, skilled acting and filmmaking, we never really care what happens.

After a career writing children's books, Jack (Pegg) is working on a screenplay about gruesome 19th century serial killers, which has left him a quivering wreck afraid to leave his Hackney flat. He ventures out for a meeting with his agent (Higgins), who sets up a meeting with a producer. But this will mean visiting the launderette, which is his greatest fear. As the nightmare escalates, Jack phones his mentor (Freeman) for help, then finds his fate eerily entwined with a local cop (Drake) and a woman (Karan) doing her laundry.

Jack is an author, a children's author at that, although this has never really been an ambition of his he just sort of fell into it. He decides to take the leap into becoming a crime author instead in an attempt to move slightly further away from his infantile profession and really try and make something of himself. The problem with this however is that Jack, to be minimize his personality, is a sensitive kind of guy. So when he becomes entombed by his research into Victorian serial killers he starts to turn into what can only be described as a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Review

Very Good
The M:I franchise once again goes rogue with its choice of directors, giving Bird his first live-action film. He takes an eye-popping approach to the genre, creating a guilty pleasure romp that balances corny plotting with muscled-up fun.

Ethan (Cruise) is broken out of a grim Russian prison by old colleague Dunn (Pegg) and new IMF agent Carter (Patton). But why was he in there to begin with? And why does his next mission result in a bombing of the Kremlin that's blamed on the IMF, which is now in Ghost Protocol mode: dissolved and vulnerable. To clear his name, Ethan, Dunn, Carter and analyst Brandt (Renner) head to Dubai and then Mumbai to stop megalomaniacal peacenik Hendricks (Nyqvist) from triggering a nuclear war.

Burke & Hare Review

OK
You can see what Landis was trying to do here: recapture the funny-scary tone of one of his biggest hits, 1981's An American Werewolf in London. But the mix of comedy and grisliness in this comical take on a true story is off the mark.

In 1828 Edinburgh, friends William Burke (Pegg) and William Hare (Serkis) realise they can make good money supplying cadavers to world-class surgeon Dr Knox (Wilkinson). But when they can't find a dead body, they kill someone instead. Hare's wife (Hynes) finds out and wants in on it, but Burke can't tell his aspiring actress girlfriend (Fisher) how he makes his living. Meanwhile, Knox is battling a rival surgeon (Curry) for the King's seal. And the local militia captain (Corbett) is closing in.

New Captain Kirk Talks

Chris Pine Captain Entertainment Weekly John Cho Karl Urban Lord Of The Rings Simon Pegg Star Trek Take That William Shatner Zachary Quinto

Chris Pine, the actor set to play Captain Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek film, has talked of the pressures of taking on the iconic role.

Smokin' Aces star Pine is to step into the shoes of William Shatner in the JJ Abrams picture which tells of the adventures of the Starship Enterprise during their time at Star Fleet academy.

Though he confirmed he would reveal "not a thing" during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 27-year-old did let slip some small details about the movie, set for a Boxing Day release.

"I think the biggest mistake I could ever do would be to try to recreate what Mr Shatner did," he explained. "There are certain qualities that Kirk has that are vital for someone who is a leader of men.

"And those qualities, I definitely wanted to take from what Mr Shatner did in the original series. But my job is to take something new, to Take That and build upon it, really do my own thing. I just feel no pressure when it comes to that."

The young actor admitted he can understand the fears of hardcore fans but attempt to allay some of their concerns.

"I don't have that many credits and people are very worried that their Kirk is going to be destroyed. But I can only say that we're having a great time. JJ has been wonderful and the cast is phenomenal. I think what we're doing is very special."

Pine said he had not met Shatner, but added: "I've met Mr Nimoy a couple of times. He's been on set and we have a couple of scenes in the film, which will be nice, and I'm excited for those."

Though Heroes star Zachary Quinto is to play the young Vulcan, Pine's comments could imply that time travel is featured in the movie or that flashbacks will be used.

After a call for 'odd-looking' extras, much of the movie's major casting has been completed.

British comedy favourite Simon Pegg will play the young Scotty, Lord Of The Rings actor Karl Urban stars as Leonard 'Bones' McCoy and comic actor John Cho plays Mr Sulu.

Hot Fuzz Review

Excellent
For those who appreciated some gore alongside laughter in a movie, and were sick of seeing the slashers of the 1980s being constantly regurgitated for box office dollars, 2004's Shaun of the Dead was a refreshing cinematic experience. It wasn't perfect -- logic would randomly suspend itself and re-start again at the whim of plot, but the characters were fun to watch and listen to so it was difficult to hold these minor foibles against the film.

The filmmakers have returned, and corrected many of their mistakes. Hot Fuzz is not only hilariously funny, but every intelligent detail makes sense this time around, and the action is that much more engaging for what takes place because of it.
