Absolutely Anything Trailer

If you could change absolutely anything in the world, what would it be? This is the ultimate question that Neil Clarke finds himself faced with when he wakes up with the ability to become whoever he wants to be, have whatever he wants and make the impossible very easily possible. Little does he know that this is a test set up by some disgruntled extra-terrestrial lifeforms, who have given the following ultimatum: use this ultimate power for good, or watch the Earth burn. Unfortunately, Neil has a lot of things in his own life that he would like to change, let alone important things in the rest of the world. He wishes for an easier life, to be more attractive and to win the heart of his neighbour Catherine. But, as Spider-Man once said, with great power comes great responsibility, so if he is thinking of making some big changes, he ought to make sure he's really thought them through first.

Simon Pegg Warns Obsession With Sci-Fi Is "Infantilizing" Society

Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg, the celebrated British actor and co-writer of the next Star Trek movie, has warned that an "obsession" with sci-fi is leading to society becoming "infantilized". The 45-year-old also spoke of his reservations about becoming the "poster child" for the "geekdom generation."

Simon PeggSimon Pegg was warned of the dangers of sci-fi

"Obviously," he told the Radio Times, "I'm very much a self-confessed fan of science-fiction and genre cinema. But part of me looks at society as it is now and thinks we've been infantilised by our own taste. We're essentially all consuming very childish things - comic books, superheroes. Adults are watching this stuff, and taking it seriously!"

Simon Pegg Blames Sci-Fi And Superhero Movies For The 'Dumbing Down Of Cinema'

Simon Pegg

He may be a self confessed geek and the co-writer of the next Star Trek movie, but Simon Pegg has said he feels cinema is being ‘dumbed down’ by sci-fi and comic book movies. Speaking to the Radio Times, the actor said society had now become “infantilised” and therefore more challenging movies were no longer able to find sucess at the box office.

Simon PeggPegg stars as Scotty in the recent Star Trek films.

“Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Bonnie and Clyde and The French Connection – gritty, amoral art movies,” he told the mag.“Then suddenly the onus switched over to spectacle and everything changed … I don’t know if that is a good thing.”

Set to hit theaters this weekend, 'Kill Me Three Times' sees Simon Pegg in yet another violent parody, this time taking on the classic hitman-action drama. Pegg and director Kriv Stenders reveal the paradigms that make the genre so fun to lampoon.

Simon Pegg enjoyed carrying his huge gun

He's mocked the zombie horror, the cop thriller, the sci-fi adventure, the romance drama and the period thriller, but now Pegg has taken on what looks to be one of his most fun roles yet, playing experienced assassin Charlie Wolfe in this complicated tale of betrayal, infidelity and revenge. And it seems Pegg and Stenders were on the same wavelength before filming even started.

But now Pegg has a whole film dedicated to that title, in his latest romantic comedy, Man Up, his character Jack doesn’t seem to need to take the advice quite as much as previous Pegg inhabitations might have done.

The Boxtrolls Review

Extraordinary

A triumph on a variety of levels, this staggeringly detailed stop-motion animation has a wonderfully deranged story packed with spirited characters. It also takes on some seriously important issues without ever getting heavy-handed about it. So while we're laughing at the astounding visual mayhem, there's plenty of depth to keep our brains spinning. And what the film has to say about communal paranoia is vitally important in today's world.

The story takes place a decade after a baby was kidnapped by the Boxtrolls, nighttime scavengers who prowl by night. Over the last 10 years, their legend has grown, and the people are now terrified of being eaten. So the red-hatted Snatcher (voiced by Ben Kingsley) and his sidekicks (Richard Ayoade, Nick Frost and Tracy Morgan) set a goal to exterminate the trolls in exchange for prestigious white hats, which will let them join Lord Portley-Rind (Jared Harris) for his evening cheese-tasting events. Then Portley-Rind's daughter Winnie (Elle Fanning) spots a boy among the Boxtrolls, learning that Eggs (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is actually the kidnapped baby. And that Boxtrolls aren't actually villains at all. But can she get her father to pay attention to her for even a moment, so he can understand that Snatcher is the real bad guy?

Everything on-screen is in constant motion, with cluttered scenes that are a feast for the eyes. Action sequences are complicated and layered, drawing the eye all over the screen as the stakes grow higher with each scene. The mechanical climax feels like one step too far, but the filmmakers keep the focus tightly on the characters, each of whom has a bundle of quirks and obsessions that make them flawed and likeable. Even the nefarious Snatcher has a soft side, and Kingsley has a great time bringing out each aspect of the hilariously vile character, including his scene-stealing alter ego, the fabulous drag queen Madame Frou Frou.

Hector And The Search For Happiness Review

Weak

With an approach so saccharine that it makes Eat Pray Love look like an edgy thriller, this heartwarming meaning-of-life odyssey is so relentlessly schmalzy that it quickly annoys anyone with even a tiny spark of cynicism inside them. And the annoying thing is that the filmmakers might have got away with it if there was any depth to the constant flow of uplifting sloganeering.

It starts in London, where the psychiatrist Hector (Simon Pegg) has a perfect life with his cheeky girlfriend Clara (Rosamund Pike). But the misery of his patients is rubbing off on him, so he decides to go in search of the true meaning of happiness. He starts by heading to Shanghai, where he meets a stinking-rich businessman (Stellan Skarsgard) and a sexy young woman (Zhao Ming). But is happiness found in money or sex? Silly question. Moving on, he checks out knowledge and wisdom in Tibet with a monk (Togo Igawa), then charity and power in Africa with an old pal (Barry Atsma), a drug kingpin (Jean Reno) and a gang of heavily armed rebels. Finally, he heads to Los Angeles to explore nostalgia with his old flame Agnes (Toni Collette), who helps him track down an award-winning self-help author (Christopher Plummer) who's known as "the Einstein of happiness".

Based on the book by Francois Lelord, the film is assembled along an outline of Hector's discoveries along the road, so what he discovers is actually written across the screen. But none of it is remotely enlightening, so why is he travelling to China, Tibet and Africa to discover these cheesy aphorisms, which appear on trite motivational posters in every office in the Western world? In addition to the on-screen captions, there are animated segments from Hector's travel diary, which are clearly drawn by a professional artist, not this hapless goofball who can't even remember where his pen is.

The Boxtrolls Trailer

The Boxtrolls are odd underground creatures that wear cardboard boxes as if they were shells. Shy and wary of the unforgiving world around them, they take to the streets at night to recycle rubbish from dustbins and store it in their homes below the streets of Cheesebridge; a town fixated with money and smelly cheese and who are less than welcoming to their sewer dwelling neighbours, who they believe to be enormous insidious menaces. That couldn't be further than the truth when it comes to the Boxtrolls; there is simply nothing menacing about them, so when they find themselves being pursued by a ruthless exterminator by the name of Archibald Snatcher, all they want to do is make sure they are well hidden. They have a protector, however, named Eggs - a young boy who the Boxtrolls adopted as a baby - and he's about to show them just how brave they can be in the face of danger.

Here's Why America Should Flock To See 'The World's End' This Weekend

Simon Pegg Nick Frost Edgar Wright Bill Nighy Paddy Considine

New British comedy The World's End has been released today (23rd Aug) in America and is the third in the tenuously linked 'Cornetto Trilogy.' First off, you should know that the title is the name of the pub that proves crucial to the plotline of the movie as the characters embark on that modern British crusade: the epic pub crawl. The movie serves as a sort-of sequel to 2007's Hot Fuzz and 2004's Shaun of the Dead in that the same band of UK comedy actors are employed.

We Brits love our dorks so there's little hunky eye candy within the trilogy's recurring cast of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Bill Nighy and Paddy Considine. However, what you do get is some of Britain's funniest comedy actors playing a band of unlikely heroes who will win over your hearts for their determination and the film's daft sense of humour.

Simon Pegg's The World's End Is A Veritable August Treat

Simon Pegg Edgar Wright Nick Frost Rosamund Pike

Having enthralled U.K audiences and critics alike, it’s time for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s World’s End to go stateside. The film marks the end of the unusually titled ‘Cornetto Trilogy,’ and sees a few friends return to a town where everything is not quite as it seems.

What American audiences might not know – seeing as Pegg has already has a degree of success stateside – is that his partnership with director Edgar Wright and co-star Nick Frost goes way back to the British sitcom, Spaced, which laid the foundations for the Cornetto trilogy: Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.

ITV Buys Simon Pegg, Nick Frost's 'Big Talk' In $30 Million Deal

Simon Pegg Nick Frost Edgar Wright

ITV has purchased Big Talk - the production company part owned by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright - for $12.5 million, which could rise to $30 million depending on performance.

Founded in 1995, Big Talk is responsible for British hits Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, as well as Pegg, Frost and Wright's new movie The World's End.

BBC Worldwide owns 25% of the company and stands to make a potential £7.5 million from the deal. According to the Guardian, the deal was prompted by the expiry of Big Talk's five-year deal with the BBC's commercial.

The World's End: Are Pegg And Wright The New Richard Curtis And Hugh Grant?

Simon Pegg Edgar Wright Nick Frost

The World's End, the final movie in Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy, appears to have cemented the position of Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost among the British comedy movie elite.

It began in 2004 with the peerless Shaun of the Dead and moved nicely long with the hugely enjoyable Hot Fuzz in 2007. Now, six years on, the pair reunite for 'The World's End' - the story of five childhood friends getting back together to conquer the epic pub crawl they could never complete as youngsters.

The jokes are very much the same. Pegg even re-enacts the jumping through the garden fence gag, though to a certain extent it's better to rehash the successful stuff and go out with a bang, than risk new, less funny material and scupper the whole darn trilogy.

The World's End Review

Very Good

After Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Pegg and Wright conclude their so-called Cornetto Trilogy with yet another riotously inspired exploration of British culture: the pub crawl. And this time it's apocalyptic! But what makes the film thoroughly endearing is its focus on old friendships that are so well-played that we can't help but find ourselves on-screen even when things get very, very silly.

Pegg plays Gary, the ringleader of his band of school pals. It's been more than 20 years since their failed attempt to visit all 12 pubs in their hometown of Newton Haven. Now approaching 40, Gary hasn't grown up nearly as much as his friends, so it takes a bit of convincing to get the now-settled Andy, Ollie, Pete and Steve (Frost, Freeman, Marsan and Considine) to reunite for a renewed attempt to drink their way through town. Then after the first couple of pints, they start to suspect that something isn't quite right. People are behaving strangely, as if there are alien body snatchers taking over the town. So to avoid attracting attention, the boys just carry on getting blind drunk on their way to the 12th pub, The World's End.

As in the previous films, Pegg and Wright continue developing the characters and their inter-relationships even as everything falls apart around them. Sure, the end of the humanity seems to be upon them, but there's unfinished business between them that needs sorting out, and besides there are more pints to drink. Along the way, things are spiced up as they meet Ollie's sister Sam (Pike), who shocks Gary by refusing to pick up where they left off. They also encounter a former teacher (Brosnan), the town's crazy old man (Bradley) and a shady guy known as The Reverend (Smiley).

The World's End - the third and final instalment of Edgar Wright's 'Cornetto' comedy trilogy starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Paddy Considine - hits cinemas nationwide on July 19, 2013. It centres around five friends who attempt a notorious pub crawl in their unassuming hometown - twelve pubs, twelve pints and the only the strongest will survive.

Of course, the mind of Edgar Wright doesn't work think along quite such straight lines and the boozy group unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival.

Also starring British talent Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsen and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman, The World's End promises a hugely enjoyable finale for the trilogy - also featuring Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz - though the soundtrack is worth checking out too.
