Sigourney Weaver may not be done with the Alien movies just yet. The sci-fi franchise has moved in a different direction with the Prometheus films though the original star excited fans at the Hero Complex Film Festival over the weekend during a Q&A between screenings of Ridley Scott's original movie and James Cameron's follow-up.

Inevitably, Weaver was quizzed about the character of Ellen Ripley - one of the most memorable protagonists in sci-fi movie history,

"Had we done a fifth one, I don't doubt that her humanity would have prevailed", Weaver told the crowd. "I do feel like there is more story to tell. I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished.I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story."

Clearly Scott's priority is Prometheus 2, which is happening with Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace etc, and Alien: Resurrection is always going to be a difficult movie to move on from, however, the forthcoming sequel could link up with the original franchise leaving the potential for Weaver's return in later movies.

More: Prometheus 2 will be heavy on Michael Fassbender

The box-office success of Prometheus confirmed that there's still an appetite for the Alien story and the first two films are clearly sci-fi classics. Had Alien 3 not been hindered by major production problems it would arguably have been considered the finest sci-fi trilogy of all time - though Alien Resurrection went a spoilt that anyway.

Prometheus 2 will hit theaters on 4 March 2016. It is written by the 'Green Lantern' scribe Michael Green.
