Hollywood producers removed a host of top celebrity voices from the box office hit Shrek 2 for overseas audiences - including Joan Rivers and LARRY KING.

American chat show host King, who voices UGLY SISTER 2, was replaced by British TV personality Jonathan Ross' trademark lisp in the UK version.

Elsewhere, the screeching tones of comedienne Rivers as the red-carpet reporter were replaced with the subtle voice of TV presenter Kate Thornton for the British version, even though the animated presenter was clearly a Rivers doppelganger.

Shrek 2's UK spokesperson LAWRENCE ATKINSON explains, "It's done purely for fun. When the dubbing was going on in America, other English-speaking territories were asked, 'Can you find a vocal equivalent to Larry King and Joan Rivers?'"
