Shirley Maclaine prefers to stay away from the whirlwind Hollywood lifestyle - even at the expense of lucrative film roles.

While the Terms Of Endearment actress, 71, was happy to party in her younger days with Rat Pack legends Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, she refuses to get caught up in the treadmill of relentless self-promotion to up her profile in the film business.

MacLaine, who appears in forthcoming movie Bewitched with Nicole Kidman, says, "In order to have a say in Hollywood, you have to play with the circus, parties, receptions, business meals.

"I don't do that anymore. I belong to a generation of artists that no longer exists - people like Sinatra, Martin and MARLON BRANDO - all dead."
