The actor died from complications related to a rare blood disorder.
Dave Madden, whom you may know from his most famous role as Ruben Kinkaid on “The Partrige Family,” has died. The 82-year-old actor passed away on Thursday at a hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. According to his wife, Sandra Madden, the cause of death was related to his blood disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome.
Madden first rose to fame in the 70s with his role in “The Partridge Family”, which ran for three seasons between 1970 and 1974. On the show, he played the eternally cranky manager who managed the family band. The show itself was based on the premise of a widowed mother, who turns her five children into stars, taking them on the road to kicksttart their musical careers. Shirley Jones played the role of the mom, while Danny Bonaduce found his break, playing the band’s loudmouth teenage basist, constantly clashing with Madden’s character.
"The Partridge Family" also gave Danny Bonaduci his head start.
Following his stint on “The Partridge Family,” which lasted for the full three seasons of the show, Madden took on regular appearances as a member of the comedy ensemble on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In." He also had a recurring role as a customer at Mel's Diner on the long-running sitcom "Alice." He was educated in radio, TV and film at the University of Miami.
In his breakthrough role, Madden acted opposite Shirley Jones.
He began show business as a magician and nightclub comedian, later scoring his first acting job on the short-lived sitcom "Camp Runamuck" in the mid-1960s. His other TV credits include "Barney Miller," "Love, American Style" and "Bewitched." He lived in Los Angeles for forty years, before moving to Florida about 8 years ago. Madden is survived by his wife and two children from his first marriage, Selena Madden and Michael Fox; a stepdaughter, Alexandra Martin; a sister; and two grandchildren.
