LaBeouf was due to make his New York stage debut opposite the 30 Rock star and Tom Sturridge last month (Mar13), but he quit the show after reportedly clashing with the veteran actor.
The Transformers hunk later published screen shots of his email correspondence with Baldwin and director Daniel Sullivan in a bid to explain his sudden decision to leave the production, but on Monday (01Apr13), he revealed the real reason why he was replaced by actor Ben Foster.
During an appearance on U.S. programme The Late Show with David Letterman, he said, "I got fired from my job... I was doing a play out here that I got fired from... Me and Alec had tension as men, not as artists, but as men... I'm pretty passionate and impulsive and he's a very passionate individual as well, and that impulsiveness and that passion makes for some fireworks... In a room that became a hard thing to deal with. When you (sic) got tension as men that's tough till July, it's cool for increments, but I think to do that for a long period of time would have been tough."
Host Letterman then asked the 26 year old if he suspected Baldwin had asked producers to fire him, to which he responded, "I think that might have been what happened."
Despite the drama, LaBeouf put aside their differences to cheer on the cast during the play's opening night last month (Mar13), and the actor just hopes the two can make amends because he has nothing but respect for the Emmy winner's work: "He's a great actor and I wish him the best of luck... He's a good dude and the show is terrific. I (sic) got nothing better to say... Alec, I think you're awesome man, that's it."
