Sylvester Stallone won't direct 'The Expendables' sequel.

The action star - who was director, co-writer and star of the first film - is said to be meeting up with other filmmakers who might take on the project instead of him returning for the planned second instalment.

According to the Los Angeles Times newspaper, Sylvester has had less involvement with The Script of the sequel, with David Agosto and Ken Kaufman picking up the writing credits instead.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is lining up a leading role in the 'Expendables' sequel.

The Belgian actor - popularly known as The Muscles from Brussels - turned down a role in the first film, directed by Sylvester Stallone, but is interested in starring in a second movie.

Van Damme's close friend, director Sheldon Lettich, confirmed the news on a fan forum, claiming he was on board but Steven Seagal is unlikely to return because of issues with producer Avi Lerner.

LATEST: Movie-maker Sheldon Lettich has been forced to scrap plans to bring Wesley Snipes and Jean-Claude Van Damme together in a new action film - because he can't afford them.

Lettich had hoped to team the fallen martial arts stars up in new film THE HARD COPS, but he admits budgetary restrictions won't allow him to do that.

He tells Van Damme fansite vandammefan.bravepages.com, "Here's the reasons why (we can't do this), as the producer explained to me: It would cost in the neighbourhood of $10 million (GBP5.6 million) just to pay both their salaries, but there is no assurance that this movie would do twice the business if both stars were in it.

Rambo III Review

Weak
Regardless of how you feel about the First Blood series, you have to hand it to Rambo III for pulling off one of the most inventive title switcheroos in Hollywood history. How's that? The movies go from First Blood to Rambo: First Blood Part II, to Rambo III. Shouldn't this be Rambo II? It's enough to make a Vietnam vet's head spin!

In this final entry into the incredibly profitable, gory, and mumbletastic Rambo series, Sylvester Stallone has traded writing partner James Cameron for Sheldon Lettich (of such films as Bloodsport), and his hair is so long he can barely see through his bangs. Good thing he's got that headband to keep it out of his face.
