In an interview promoting Disney's new fairytale movie 'Maleficent', Sharlto Copley, who plays King Stefan in the movie, talks about what it's like to play a villain and to work alongside Robert Stromberg in his directorial debut.
'I don't enjoy playing villains, I find it difficult', he confesses. 'What I do enjoy in a case like this is demonstrating a kind of male archetype; being, for example, the very driven alpha-male who starts the movie, feels like he's insignificant, feels like he wants to be more important and then just... becomes the king of his castle.' Talking about Stromberg, he reveals how Rob's creative skills affected his directing. 'Rob is a genuine artist... [He's] an Oscar-winning production designer and designed the art, the characters, the worlds in this film himself which is very, very rare', he says. 'His directing style, he's very gentle; he's almost trying to coax out of you what's fitting in his head.'
