The pair play Beatrice 'Tris' Prior and Tobias 'Four' Eaton respectively in forthcoming sci-fi action flick 'Divergent', where they share a ''hot and intense'' screen romance, and director Neil Burger admits he was inclined to cast them after witnessing their instant chemistry during auditions.
He told Total Film magazine: ''They really had a connection so I was confident we would get it. They're both kinda attracted to each other! And I think people are going to be excited about their relationship in the movie, there's real friction between them.
''They're in a world where it's not about their attraction, they've got real, physical concerns - whether it be training or real life-or-death situations - but unlike, say, 'The Hunger Games', where there's a sort of relationship but not really, here's a real romance which is hot and intense.''
'Divergent' is based on Veronica Roth's popular novel of the same name, and Burger wants the ''sophisticated'' film to appeal to everyone.
He added: ''It's from a young adult novel but we're playing it pretty sophisticated. It's not a movie just for teenagers, it's much more universal.''
