Bert And Ernie Aren't Gay: The Big Difference Between Frank Oz And Sesame Street's Statements

Sesame Street The Muppets Frank Oz

The relationship status of 'Sesame Street' favourites Bert and Ernie has long been questioned, with many now-adult fans convinced that they were in fact a gay couple. A former writer for the show took it upon himself to confirm the rumours recently, but now the Sesame workshop and Frank Oz are contesting this alleged truth and it's even more divisive than before.

Saying that Bert and Ernie are gay has served to both delight and infuriate fans of The Muppets, but that's exactly what writer Mark Saltzman thought while he was working on 'Sesame Street' for 15 years. He admits that the Muppets' relationship reflected his own relationship with partner Arnold Glassman at the time.

Sesame Street's Autistic Character Shows Just How Far Television Has Come

Sesame Street

'Sesame Street' is making waves once again by introducing a unique new character to their cast. Julia is the first character in the series to have autism and sees set to arrive on our screens in April. The addition marks an important turning point in on-screen diversity.

Julia will be puppeteered by Stacey Gordon, who is more equipped than most to depict the character's mannerisms and behaviour, given that her own child is living with autism. 'I wished that it had come out years before, when my own child was at the Sesame Street age', she told 60 Minutes.

Sesame Street's "Game Of Chairs" Lovingly Parodies 'Game Of Thrones'

Sesame Street Game Of Thrones

Ahead of the much-anticipated return of HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ this coming Sunday, ‘Sesame Street’ has released an adorable parody video of the drama series.

Entitled ‘Game of Chairs’, the spoof video of the violent and long-running fictional drama was released on Tuesday and has racked up nearly a million views in just under twenty four hours. In it, four characters who look suspiciously like ones from the series compete in a game of musical chairs hosted by Grover. The three throne-like chairs are a bronze one made out of ping-pong bats, a silver one made of golf clubs and golf balls, and a gold one made out of baseball bats.

Sheeran announced the video’s release this morning, posting a link on his Twitter page and writing, ”Filmed that a long time ago, happy it's finally out.” So far the just under three minute video has racked up over 90,000 views (though we’re guessing quite a lot of these were from Sheeran’s more grown-up fans).

'Sesame Street' Spoofs 'The Hunger Games' With 'Catching Fur'

Sesame Street Josh Hutcherson Jennifer Lawrence Liam Hemsworth

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will arrive in cinemas this month amidst a flurry of excitement and anticipation from the film's already ardent following. Any event as big as a new Hunger Games movie is prone to receive its fair share of spoofing, and with 'The Hungry Games: Catching Fur,' the Sesame Street gang may have already come up with the best spoof of the all.

Cookie Monster, everyone's favourite cookie-loving, blue furred hedonist, has dropped the song and video for his latest track, 'Me Want It' (But Me Wait)' - cover of Swedish duo Icona Pop's recent hit 'I Love It.' The video sees the member of the Sesame Street gang practising self-restraint in front of a big bowl of chocolate chip cookies.

"But now me know something//Self-control is something me must learn," he sings, "Me want it! But me wait." Seemingly, the track is being used to promote moderation and self-restraint where food is concerned, as America sees the number of overweight children rise in its obesity epidemic.

Judge Dismisses Allegations Against Sesame Street's Kevin Clash

Kevin Clash Sesame Street

A judge has ruled allegations made against former 'Elmo' puppeteer Kevin Clash cannot be taken further as the three accusers filed their claims too late. Of the five lawsuits filed against Clash, since autumn 2012, only one remains unresolved.

The allegations concern Clash's involvement with three men whilst they were underage. Three separate lawsuits were dismissed by the judge who said the statute of limitations had run out on the claims. This is because it is "more than six years after each plaintiff reasonably should have become aware of the defendant's alleged violations".

Elmo Puppeteer Kevin Clash Cleared Of Child Molestation Charges

Kevin Clash Sesame Street

It was a good day for Sesame Street and Kevin Clash, as the one-time Elmo voice-actor has been cleared of all charges of sexual molestation against three underaged boys, with the ruling judge at a federal court in New York saying that the defendants have waited too long to file their case.

The lawsuits filed by Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and a 3rd unnamed accuser was deemed unfit for court, with the judge deciding that the cases against the voice actor and puppeteer was submitted too long after the statute of limitations had run out. As the judge detailed, the statute of limitations to sue someone for molestation expires 3 years after the accusers' 18th birthday and with Singleton - the man who cam forward to the police - aged 23 when he filed the report, he has missed the deadline.

Upside Downton Abbey - Sesame Street Meets The Crawley Family

Sesame Street

Sesamy Street has remained the world’s favorite kids show (and no, that’s not an exaggeration) for over 40 years by staying current and recently, with the show taking to spoofing the most popular shows on air.

The latest production to come under fire? None other than Downton Abbey; although “fire” is probably too strong for a description for the lighthearted spoof that Sesame Street has done. Upside Downton Abbey is… well it’s funny, to be honest, even from the perspective of someone way out of Sesame Street’s demographic. Then again, the show has been known to hold its appeal with kids and adults alike. What other children’s show would think to parody a series about British aristocracy?

“Why is the tea not going in my cup?”
