Selena Gomez has become the most recent celebrity to mock E.L. James' erotic bestseller 'Fifty Shades of Grey' by starring in a Funny or Die parody video where she read excerpts from the book in a voiceover, applying it to a comical situation involving an ill-mannered painter.
Selena, best known for her role in 'Wizards of Waverly Place', depicts the main female protagonist Anastasia Steele in the video titled 'Fifty Shades of Blue'. Nick Kroll plays Carl Blue who frequently coughs, picks his belly button and makes offensive comments about Anastasia. Despite this, Anastasia has fallen madly in love with him which Carl finds massively disconcerting. The sexually explicit novel was initially written as 'Twilight' fan fiction and found itself online titled 'Master of the Universe' but James took it down after complaints were made regarding the obscene content. She published it on her own website before transferring it to an e-book in 2011. It is the first of a three part erotic trilogy.
A video was recently posted showing the cast of 'Snow White and the Huntsman' reading passages of the racy novel on MTV News, including Kristen Stewart whose 'Twilight' character featured in the original story. Comedienne Ellen Degeneres also read excerpts, but refused to use the X-rated language and instead changing some of the words to reflect a more subtle (but all the more comical) tone.
