Movie stars Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon will join a hunger-strike which began on Independence Day in America today (04JUL06) outside the White House in Washington DC. The Dead Man Walking co-stars have signed up to the 'rolling fast' which sees protestors giving up food for a day in protest at the war in Iraq, before other participants pick up the cause the following day. Organised by CodePink, a women's anti-war group, the hunger-strike will end on 21 September (06) - International Peace Day. Organisers hope to bring to attention the loss of life on both sides of the conflict. Penn and Sarandon will be joined by Willie Nelson and Danny Glover. Penn visited Iraq in 2002 and again in 2003 where he toured a children's hospital and a water treatment plant.
