OSCAR-winner Sean Penn was surprised when veteran character actor HARRY DEAN STANTON didn't recognise him in the 1980s, because the pair had recently spent a week partying together.
Penn was visiting his friend Mickey Rourke on the set of 9 1/2 WEEKS, and the pair ended up carousing nightclubs with Stanton, famed for parts in classics including THE GODFATHER PART II, REPO MAN, and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
But just weeks later Penn was left dumbfounded when he met up with Stanton again - and realised the actor had no idea who he was.
Penn, now 44, says, "I was in New York when they were shooting 9 1/2 Weeks, and I spent about a week with Mickey Rourke and Harry Dean Stanton, going out to nightclubs all the time. I was a big admirer of Harry's work.
"Then Harry left, went back to Los Angeles. Two week later I was back too, and I went up to what was a private club, On The Rox. It was about 11 o'clock at night and the only other person in the whole place was Harry Dean.
"And so I sat and talked to Harry, and he didn't remember me at all. No idea who I was.
"I'd just spent a week as a roommate with him two weeks ago."19/10/2004 02:24
