Sean Penn's Haiti relief organisation has been handed a $8.75 million (£5.5 million) grant from the World Bank.

The cash injection will help Penn's J/P Haitian Relief Organization fund a 16-month project to help 14,000 people who are living in temporary camps following Haiti's devastating 2010 earthquake.

Penn hopes to use the money to support rebuilding efforts with the construction of 45 housing units and a new community infrastructure in the Delmas 32 area, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie star launched J/P Hro in March, 2010, two months after the earthquake.
