Sean Penn celebrated his 50th birthday in Dublin this past weekend, with a little help from Bono. The two-time OSCAR winning actor is in Ireland filming his new movie This Must Be The Place (2011), which stars the U2 frontman's daughter, EVE HEWSON. Despite being a city renowned for its traditional pubs, bars, and party atmosphere, the pair chose a rather more subdued way to celebrate the actor's landmark age. The UK's Mail Online reports that the friends were "enjoying lunch together at Marco Pierre White's Steakhouse and Grill", adding that when Penn emerged he "didn't look like he was celebrating much at all, with his head down and a scowl on his face".
Penn has had a long and distinguished film career, winning numerous awards for his highly versatile style. In 2001 he starred in I Am Sam, playing a mentally retarded man aiming to win custody of his 7-year-old daughter, and in 2008, he played the American gay activist Harvey Milk, in Gus Van Sant's Milk.
Despite Penn turning 50-years-old on the 17th August 2010, his career doesn't look like faltering - he's set to appear alongside Brad Pitt in the drama The Tree of Life, due for release in November 2010.
