A reggae producer who gave Sean Paul and Beenie Man their big breaks has been shot dead in Jamaica.
Joel Chin was killed outside his home in Stony Hill on Tuesday (16Aug11). He was 35.
The beatmaker is the grandson of VP Records founder Vincent Chin and son of noted reggae producer Clive Chin. He followed in the family business and began his career as a talent scout, signing Get Busy hitmaker Paul and Beenie Man, as well as popular artists T.O.K. and Sizzla.
Chin's murder occurred just three weeks after he became a first-time father.
His uncle, Christopher Chin, tells the New York Daily News, "Joel's only two passions in life were music and Jamaica. They consumed all his time and effort... This is a huge loss for our family. He had just begun to live his life."
