Sean Hayes has signed up to play Larry in the 'Three Stooges' remake.

The former 'Will And Grace' actor will star as one third of the legendary comedy act alongside Will Sasso, who was cast as Curly last week.

Although an actor is yet to be announced for the third main role of Moe, 'Modern Family' beauty Sofia Vergara is said to be in talks to play a femme fatale who claims to be the wife of a dying man and aims to seduce the trio into killing him so she can pocket his money.

The 20th Century Fox remake, which will be directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly and is set for release next year, will be separated into three 27-minute narratives, featuring The Stooges' trademark slapstick comedy.

Originally the film was set up by MGM with Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro tipped for the main roles.

Sean's last big-screen appearance was in 2007's 'The Bucket List'.
