British actor Sean Bean is backing a campaign in his hometown to raise $2 million (£1.3 million) for new cancer treatment facilities at a local hospital.
The Lord of the Rings star has signed up to front the Do Your Bit initiative in aid of the Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield, England, and he has filmed a personal video message calling for donations.
Bean also reveals he has a personal connection to the hospital, as his father has been treated at the facility in the past.
He says, "This new facility will provide the very best in treatment for thousands of people living with cancer.
"Cancer touches all of our lives at some point; my dad has been treated at the hospital, so I know first hand what a wonderful cause it is. I am urging everyone to get behind the 'Do Your Bit' campaign.
"Every single donation, no matter how small, really will help to make a difference."
