It looks like Telltale are on a mission to grab the coolest licenses for themselves. Reports suggest the celebrated developer is in talks for a game based on George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones.

Walking Dead Season 2Walking Dead Season 2 - Clem battles zombie

The news comes from IGN in a report that cites multiple unnamed sources. It’s currently unknown which version of the epic fantasy series will be reimagined onto an interactive format. Of course, the series is called Song of Ice with the first book entitled Game of Thrones, so perhaps we’ll see a story from the very beginning. Maybe even a sequel?

In a recent Reddit Q&A, Telltale Games co-founder Dan Connors said the developer is "working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can't wait to announce those." And when IGN reached out for comment, they were met with this: "We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time. Officially we have no comment."

Telltale reasserted themselves to the gaming world with their take on The Walking Dead. The comic book style harked back to the origins of the franchise, which were founded in graphic novels. But building upon the smart visuals, newcomers to the series still had plenty to be excited about. The episodic game was praised for its incredible story, which was told via smartly integrated characters.

The second season, due to hit soon, will be released on the back of the first game’s success.

Recently, Telltale unleashed The Wolf Among Us, which features a similar art style and game mechanic. Based on the Fables comic book series, the player takes on the role of Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown. And judging by the early reviews, they’ve replicated their Walking Dead formula perfectly.

If Game of Thrones – such a beloved fantasy franchise – is to be taken on by any developer, fans should be happy Telltale is the rumored one.
