Seal has opened up about his shock split from supermodel wife Heidi Klum, just 24 hours after the couple made their announcement. The Kiss From A Rose singer appeared on the 'Ellen' show (airing Tuesday 24 January 2012) and said he and Heidi still "love each other", reports E! Online.
Going far more in-depth then the statement he released announcing the split, Seal told Ellen Degeneres, "I think we were shocked. You go into these things with the greatest intentions when you say 'I do' and you say ''Till death do us part.' Those vows hold value. They are not just words. These things happen". The split appeared to come as a shock to fans, given the couple have made a point of renewing their wedding vows each year, but Seal explained he and Klum had 'grown apart', adding, "She's (Klum) still, in my opinion, the most wonderful woman in the world. I think our priority was to remain civil and do this thing with dignity. We still very much love each other. It's not a question of we were never to follow suit of some breakup or separations that you hear about, especially in our industry". The musician, who has sold 20 million albums worldwide, began dating Heidi in February 2004 after she announced her split from Renault Formula One director Flavio Briatore. Seal proposed in December 2004 and the couple married on a beach in Mexico six months later. Speaking about their unique way of renewing their love for each other, Seal told People magazine, "Each year, Heidi and I get remarried. It's a great party, but for about an hour, we go off on our own down to a private beach. We sit there with the kids and read vows to each other as the sun sets. It's a very special moment to us".
As well as being one of the world's most famous models, Klum has a seemingly endless string of business ventures mainly involving fashion. In recent years, she has hosted the U.S. reality show Project Runway as well as the German version of Next Top Model.
