Sarah Jessica Parker Reunited With Manolo Blahnik For Her Very Own Shoe Collection

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker and Manolo Blahnik – a match made in TV heaven – is about to come to life. We all remember Carrie Bradshaw’s pink frilly stilettos, but the real-life collection the star is going to create with the brand won’t be quite as extravagant. Parker will be working with Manolo CEO George Malkemus to launch the line, which will have, above all, variety. "In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me because of Carrie Bradshaw," Parker told Vogue.com, referencing the shoe-obsessed character she played for six years on Sex and the City." Indeed, Parker’s latest venture comes as no surprise to anyone. In fact, with Sex and the City having wrapped nearly a decade ago (What two movies? We don’t know what you’re talking about and will maintain this story) the only question is, what took them so long?

As for the shoes themselves, the line will contain mostly simple pumps and flats. The most impressive thing about the pieces, according to SJP will be the color combinations used. "We're putting new colors together that people don't typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet," Parker told Vogue.com.

The different pairs will run between $200 and $300, available exclusively at Nordstrom early next year. And shoes aren’t the only pieces that the actress and Malkemus are designing together. Apparently bags are next: "And in terms of bags, thinking about the period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."

Sarah Jessica Parker Lives Carrie Bradshaw’s Dream With New Shoe Line

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw, and Carrie Bradshaw, despite being written as a strong, female character, is best known for her love of shoes. So it’s fitting that Parker is starting a line of shoes.

"In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me because of Carrie Bradshaw," Parker told Vogue.com. "Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes," Parker added. "And by default I learned an enormous amount. It's hard to walk away from that." Pumps and flats – We’re reliably informed they’re called - will cost between $200 and $300, and will be available exclusively at Nordstrom early next year. Bags will cost under $700. That’s under, in case you thought they were really expensive or anything. "We're putting new colors together that people don't typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet," Parker explained. "And in terms of bags, thinking about the period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."

Sarah Jessica Parker Checks Out 'Tilda Swinton Sleeping In A Box'

Tilda Swinton Sarah Jessica Parker

Modern art fans, movie buffs and hipsters alike flocked down to the Museum of Modern Art in New York this week to see Scottish actress Tilda Swinton sleeping in a big glass box. Her piece 'The Maybe' - originally devised in collaboration with Cornelia Parker - sees Swinton in a state of slumber while museum visitors and culture critics stare at her, and it's all in the name of art.

A furious and largely predictable debate has erupted as to whether Tilda Swinton sleeping in a box can be considered art, though - let's face it - all New Yorkers really care about is that Tilda Swinton, star of Burn After Reading, We Need To Talk About Kevin and Moonrise Kingdom is sleeping in a box. Swinton-mania is reaching boiling point and with news that the actress will only feature in the exhibition 'occasionally' - there's now a dedicated Tumblr dedicated to answering the question of the minute, "Is Tilda Swinton Sleeping In A Box?" The answer today is, "Yes. Tilda Swinton is sleeping in a box today at MoMA. It's art."

According to People magazine, Swinton has had her fair share of celebrity visitors, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick and James Franco, though not everyone is impressed. The New York magazine's Jerry Saltz was seething at the fact that - even in today's uncertain times for the arts - the museum is overcrowded. "Visiting there now is unpleasant because the museum has been so overcrowded since its 2004 makeover. The event also has inner content: MoMA is narcissistically puffing its celebrity feathers, playing at being avant-garde." Perhaps sticking Tilda Swinton in a glass box now-and-again will encourage those who wouldn't normally trek out to the museum to stop by, and, who knows, take a look at the other non-Tilda Swinton work while they're at it.

Sarah Jessica Parker “Not Sure” About The Carrie Diaries

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker made her name as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City, which, after 6 successful seasons, came back in the form of two poorly received films. So what does SJP think of the latest reboot of the franchise: The Carrie Diaries?

Well she thinks AnnaSophia Robb – who plays a young Carrie - is “lovely,” but she’s “not sure” how she feels about the series. “You know, I think it’s one of those tests of your generosity,” Parker said. “[AnnaSophia] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about, but it’s… odd.” ‘Odd’ isn’t perhaps what the people behind Diaries wanted to here. We doubt it anyway. SJP was talking in an interview with luxury shopping site Net-A-Porter.com’s online magazine The Edit. It’s probably for the best that Jessica-Parker isn’t actually involved with the series any more, as it sounds like her bust lifestyle over the past decade has damaged her, physically.

BAFTA’s Best Dressed: Who Shined Brightest On A Wet Night In London? (Pictures)

Gemma Arterton, BAFTAS, 2013If Looks Could Kill! Gemma Arterton Eyes Up Young Actress Juno Temple

The Hollywood glitterati must have wondered why they’d bothered to turn up for the BAFTAs at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday night (February 10, 2013). On a frankly dismal evening in the nation’s capital, umbrellas were commonplace on the red-carpet with publicists, media types and event organisers running around like headless chickens, hastily attempting to give the press pack their photographs without drowning the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Chastain and Helen Mirren in the cold British rain and sleet. Best pals George Clooney and Ben Affleck were seen taking shelter under the same umbrella, while actress Gemma Arterton looked absolutely freezing as she waited for up-and-coming star Juno Temple to finish working it for the cameras.

In terms of awards, it was a relatively straight-forward evening, hosted with typical panache by everyone’s favourite Briton, Stephen Fry. Ang Lee’s Life of Pi performed strongly in the technical categories – as it is expected to do at the Oscars later this month – while Skyfall won Best British Film. However, it was Ben Affleck’s Argo that took the evening’s key prize – that of Best Picture – leaving Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln to settle for Best Actor, for the peerless Daniel Day-Lewis. Best Actress went to the 85-year-old Emmanuelle Riva, which left Jennifer Lawrence and Silver Linings Playbook director David O’Russell looking quite frankly bemused.

'The Carrie Diaries' Labelled 'Bland' And 'Inept' By Critics

Sex And The City AnnaSophia Robb Sarah Jessica Parker

New teen drama 'The Carrie Diaries' received mixed reviews after airing on Monday night (January 14th 2013) on CW with critics calling the show 'bland' and 'inept'.

The series was made as a prequel to 'Sex And The City' looking into the teenage life of Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker in SATC) in the '80s in Connecticut. Young Carrie is played by AnnaSophia Robb who appeared alongside Johnny Depp in the 2005 adaptation of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. However, many critics have slammed the show for a number of different reasons. Matthew Gilbert from The Boston Globe called it 'somewhat bland' before knocking the appearance of the actress in comparison to Sarah Jessica Parker. 'She's not as small and angular, and she has a softer temperament', he said. 'I spent too much time during the premiere trying to morph Robb into Parker in my mind's eye.' Matt Zoller Seitz from The Vulture was even more cold about the show. 'The characters are bland', he said before calling it 'an inept spin off that dishonours its source' and accusing it of 'wanting to cash in on 'Sex and the City'.

The slightly warmer reviews came from Robert Lloyd at the LA Times. 'The situations are stock - John Hughes wrote this playbook pretty thoroughly - and the dialogue does not exactly crackle', he said, while Tim Goodman from The Hollywood Reporter said: 'It's kind of quaint and far less cynical than 'Gossip Girl''.

Sex And The City Prequel To Premier Tonight, What's It About?

Sarah Jessica Parker Sex And The City

You'd think both of the Sex And The City movies were fair warning: stop trying to make money out of the franchise, it'll never be as good as the series and it's getting embarrassing. Do they listen? You know the answer to that.

Now, tonight in fact, the SATC prequel will be on televisions, telling the story of the show's lead Carrie Bradshaw, as she makes her journey from Connecticut to Manhattan due to the death of her mother. "This is a younger Carrie. I mean, we're first meeting Carrie in 1984, and she's 16, so she's just getting introduced to New York and her first love and fashion, and she's really finding herself as a writer and trying to find her voice," star AnnaSophia Robb told MTV News at the series' red-carpet premiere in October. Author Candace Bushnell, says it's difficult to compare the prequel to the main show. "I never know how to answer that question," Bushnell said when asked to do just that. "Both Carries are really close to me."

"I just really tried to capture being a teenager in a small town, and although your life is perfectly fine, for some reason you want more," she continued. "You want to see the world, and you really want to experience the world. And the Carrie in 'Sex and the City' had that dream, but she's experiencing it, and she's gotten there, whereas the Carrie in 'The Carrie Diaries' is just trying to figure out how to get there."

'Manhattan! My First True Love' Sex And The City Prequel 'The Carrie Diaries'

AnnaSophia Robb Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex and the City was, for many, the defining show for women of the late '90s and early noughties, leaving a legacy that has continued into two enormous movies within the last eight years. Now, to capitalise on that enormous success, and to draw an entirely new cohort of Carrie Bradshaw fans, the CW have commissioned a prequel series called The Carrie Diaries, aimed at teenagers rather than women, and set in 1984 with a loose aim of laying down the foundations of Carrie's love of fashion, men and Manhattan.

The trailer for this new series was released over the weekend (27th Oct 2012). Despite the clip seeming to give away a huge variety of potential spoilers for the series (in fact, it may just be the whole first episode squeezed into 3 minutes) there are elements of promise. To round up: a young Carrie Bradshaw returns to high school after a summer spent grieving for her mother. A new boy, handsome and interested in Carrie arrives at school, and her friends divulge that they've lost their virginity. Carrie's father, worried about her welfare and trying to keep her busy, organises and internship for her in Manhattan where she meets someone in the publishing business- Larissa- who gives her her business card. Exciting!

Certainly, its doubtful that those of us that love Sex and the City will also love The Carrie Diaries- the target demographic is just far too different, and it doesn't seem to be quite capturing the glamour, extravagance and sex-appeal that was captivating about Bradshaw and her friends. However, there is promise and it seems likely that it will be a mixture of Clueless and Ugly Betty- no bad thing. The Carrie Diaries will begin airing in January 2013 and will be starring AnnaSophia Robb, who you may recognise from 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and 2007's Bridge to Terabithia.

Sex And The City 2 Review

Good
Once again, Michael Patrick King packs four movies into two and a half hours, and yet there's not quite enough substance for one film. There plenty of snappy one-liners and silly situations, but it will severely test the patience of any non-fan.

Two years later, Carrie and Big (Parker and Noth) are settled into a rather dry married life, Samantha (Cattrall) is carrying on like a single girl, and Miranda and Charlotte (Nixon and Davis) are grappling with work and family, respectively. Their men are patient to a fault, even when attending the uber-gay wedding of Stanford and Anthony (Garson and Cantone). Then Samantha gets a freebie luxury holiday in Abu Dhabi and the girlfriends are off for madcap adventures involving camels, sand dunes, morality police and old boyfriends.

Smart People Review

OK
In acting, chameleon-like versatility can be overrated. In Smart People, the principle actors are assigned roles right in their natural strike zones, and it's a pleasure to watch them swing away with ease. Dennis Quaid capitalizes on his natural late-career crankiness to play Lawrence Wetherhold, a widowed English professor with a perpetual sour look. His daughter Vanessa is a mouthy overachiever, which is the established domain of Ellen Page, whether her gift is configured through superhuman quippiness (Juno), insane manipulation (Hard Candy), or the ability to walk through walls (X-Men: The Last Stand).

Entering into the Wetherhold house, ostensibly to chauffer the belligerent prof after a seizure suspends his driver's license, is Lawrence's laid-back, semi-transient adopted brother Chuck. Chuck is played by Thomas Haden Church in a clear and mostly successful post-Sideways bid to establish future laid-back semi-transients as "the Thomas Haden Church part." Church and Page are especially fun to watch and, especially, listen to: Church's sort of deadpan surfer growl and Page's nasal precociousness in a vocal duel. That they recall their previous roles only hastens our desire to spend time with them.

Failure To Launch Review

Terrible
Sometimes the title of a film can be quite telling. Before you even step foot in the theater you know what to expect. Failure to Launch is one of those films, and as the title indicates, that's not a good thing.

Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) suffers from a "failure to launch." No, not that kind. He's 35 years old (going on 16) and still lives at home. With parents Al and Sue (Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates) willingly catering to his every whim, Tripp has no incentive to launch his life. They cook for him, clean his room, and wash his clothes. Tripp lives rent-free, drives a shiny new Porsche, and has a great job where he captains sailboats. It sounds pretty rough.

The Family Stone Review

Weak
The Family Stone wants to be many things. It wants to be funny and touching and warm-hearted, like any good holiday film, but aspiration is not achievement and The Family Stone proves it.

Written and directed by Thomas Bezucha, the story starts with Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) bringing his uptight girlfriend, Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker), home for Christmas to meet his family. The Stones take an immediate disliking to Meredith -- she's corporate, they're earthy -- forcing her into a downward spiral where she tries ever harder to win their approval. Sort of like Meet the Parents... at Christmastime... without the laughs.

Miami Rhapsody Review

Excellent
Director David Frankel loves Woody Allen. Miami Rhapsody is "Woody" through and through, from the big band intro music to the Jewish characters to Mia Farrow's presence. This time around, Farrow plays the adulterous mother of Sarah Jessica Parker, whose monologue wanders through every conceivable aspect of love, marriage, and infidelity.

The supporting cast is fabulous: Paul Mazursky (father and adulterer), Antonio Banderas (receiving end of adultery), Kevin Pollak (adulterer with pregnant wife). You get the picture. The only failures here are supermodel Naomi Campbell as Pollacks's love interest, who couldn't act her way out of an insurance seminar, and Parker herself, whose comedic timing is never quite right. Some people are heralding Miami Rhapsody as Parker's breakthrough into mainstream acting. Don't count on it.

State And Main Review

Extraordinary
In order to see one of 2000's real treasures, most of you are going to have to wait until January of 2001, when the masterful State and Main comes to a theater near you.

State and Main, written and directed by David Mamet (The Spanish Prisoner, The Winslow Boy, House of Games), follows a Hollywood film crew into the sleepy town of Waterford, Vermont, for the shooting of a would-be blockbuster. William H. Macy plays the director -- part ballbuster, part smooth-talker -- who comes to Waterford after the production kicked out of another lost-in-the-past New England locale.

Mars Attacks! Review

Weak
We've already had three movies based on TV shows this year, plus a film based on a TV commercial, but I think it's a really bad omen when a film is based on a series of trading cards.

The film is Mars Attacks!, and with it Tim Burton serves up the worst production of his once-blossoming career, a movie wherein he indulges every excess of his demented psyche, pays no attention to entertaining the audience, and recycles every joke he can get his hands on.

If Lucy Fell Review

Excellent
1996 is shaping up to be a great year for comedy. If Lucy Fell is the fifth romantic comedy I've reviewed this year, and it is the fourth to get my [][][][] rating (no other genres have reached this high in 1996, according to my archives).

So, am I getting soft for romances? Maybe so, but the quality of American comedy writing really seems to be on the rise. If Lucy Fell was written, directed, and stars one of our most promising up-and-comers, Eric Schaeffer, whose docu-comedic first (independent) film, My Life's in Turnaround, was a sleeper hit in 1994.

Extreme Measures Review

Excellent
It's an old question of what's right and what's wrong: if you could cure a disease by killing one person, would you do it? That's basically the premise which starts up Extreme Measures, an ultra-creepy little medical thriller by prolific filmmaker Michael Apted.

If you can deal with the notion of Hugh Grant as a doctor, you've probably suspended disbelief enough to buy the whole production. Dr. Guy Luthan (Grant) finds a mystery patient in his trauma room at Gramercy Hospital. When the patient dies from a bizarre collection of symptoms, no one seems to care except for the dashing British doc.

Hocus Pocus Review

OK
Bette Midler, never known for subtlety, got more permission to overact here than should be allowed by law. Not only is she playing a witch, but her hair is red and done up into a fright 'do, and two little hominy teeth jut out over her lower lip. Hocus Pocus, Disney's family-friendly witch-burning film, also features tons of "wow look how young they used to be!" performances from Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, and a few others. Modern audiences will probably enjoy watching a bizarre Sarah Jessica Parker ham it up as one of a trio of Salem-era witches reincarnated in the 1990s (they ride vacuum cleaners!) and after the children of the town. Too bad the story is so disposable.

Footloose Review

Good
Hey everybody, let's dance!

The teen, male version of Flashdance inspired a love of dancing to bad pop music -- especially if you could do the move where you run, jump, and slide on the dance floor on your knees. Cool, man!

L.A. Story Review

Excellent
Steve Martin's treatise on Los Angeles vapidity (and how love can be the same way) is lighthearted yet plenty of fun, even though its satire is often ridiculously over the top -- most notably when Steve Martin's TV weatherman records his segments in advance so he can get away for the weekend. (Choreographed gas station attendants aren't much more subtle.) The fun is contagious, and the movie's worth seeing for its innumerable cameos, fun supporting roles, and clever jokes. If nothing else, it will remind you how funny Martin used to be.

'Til There Was You Review

OK
A cute idea with questionable delivery, 'Til There Was You is a romantic comedy for the very patient among us. Clocking in at almost two hours, my biggest complaint is the desperate need for some cut-cut-cutting -- editing which would have made the film a much more enjoyable experience. It's a cute idea: Gwen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and Nick (Dylan McDermott) are meant for each other, but they never seem to cross paths. Also in the picture is Francesca (Sarah Jessica Parker), a now-grown-up child actress who ends up being the catalyst that inevitably brings the couple together. Written by My So-Called Life scribe Winnie Holzman, the story is absolutely dripping in the expected melodramatics and sentimentality -- but that's not necessarily bad. It's just that when you combine the film's tedious length with questionable casting decisions (Parker disappoints, & Jennifer Aniston plays a surgeon(!?)) you get a fine mess that eventually redeems itself... just not all the way.

Ed Wood Review

Excellent
If you go into this biopic expecting lots of laughs, you may be disappointed. The film's premise is the joke -- that the hapless director Ed Wood, Jr., the most inept figure in the history of the creative arts, would be the subject of a hagiography.

Keeping this disclaimer in mind, Ed Wood is a quietly hilarious movie. Every actor is in on the joke, especially Johnny Depp, who plays Wood, and Martin Landau, whose amazing portrayal of the aged Bela Lugosi won him an Oscar. Every frame of this movie conveys the tragicomedy of Wood's life (director Tim Burton made this film after scoring big with Batman; he seems to view Wood's career with an ambivalent "there but for the grace of God go I" attitude).

Dudley Do-Right Review

Bad
About two years ago I wrote a short story called "Cinemascopia." The story envisioned the movie critic's hell as being stuck inside one of his own reviews. I revise this. Hell, for me, would be eternally watching Dudley Do-Right.

Dudley Do-Right, a film from Hugh Wilson, the director of Blast from the Past, is a movie so unbearably stupid that it is an utter insult to the industry as a whole for it to have even been created. In Dudley Do-Right, the title character (Fraser) is pitted against his arch-rival Snidley Whiplash (Alfred Molina) when the town of Semi-Happy Valley falls victim to massive consumerism after Whiplash takes over the town and creates an artificial gold rush by placing gold in the streams. At the same time, Whiplash and Do-Right engage in a battle for the affections of Nell (Sarah Jessica Parker). This battle includes, but is not limited to, miniature golf, Indian tribes from Brooklyn, and paint-by-numbers portraits.

Life Without Dick Review

Good
Cute and quirky hitman/romance/comedy Life Without Dick has current it-girl Sarah Jessica Parker proving again that her acting range is pretty limited and Harry Connick Jr. showing that even if he does have some acting chops he still likes to sing at least one song in every movie he's in. The plot is complicated -- with Parker accidentally killing her boyfriend (Johnny Knoxville, ugh) after mistakenly assuming he's cheating on her. An incompetent hitman (Connick) falls in love with her, eventually figuring out she's a much better hit-person than he is. Silly but fun and quite watchable.

The Substance Of Fire Review

Good
"The substance of fire," apparently, is the printed word, in this play-adapted work about a man who is slowly ripping apart his publishing house, and his family to boot. Ron Rifkin appears in a rare -- perhaps unprecedented -- starring role, while Tony Goldwyn, Timothy Hutton, and Sarah Jessica Parker play the kiddies. Be warned this one's largely a melancholy exercise for drama students, but some nice performances help cut through the gooey histrionics to make the film somewhat worthwhile.

State & Main Review

Very Good

Playwright, filmmaker and satirical dialogue savant David Mamet ruthlessly runs Hollywood through with a poison pen in "State and Main," a wickedly ironical and incisive industry lampoon about a film crew laying siege to a Vermont hamlet where they intend to shoot a pretentious period drama.

Leading the charge is a frenzied William H. Macy as the project's wry director, who can't even get a foot of film in the can until he schmoozes local officials, curbs his narcissistic star's (Alec Baldwin) predilection for underage girls, cajoles a nude scene out of his flaky starlet (Sarah Jessica Parker) and convinces his disenchanted purist of a rookie screenwriter (Philip Seymour Hoffman) to revamp pivotal scenes that were to take place in an old mill. This town doesn't have an old mill and Macy doesn't have the budget or the time to build one.

Did I mention the title of the movie they're making? It's called "The Old Mill."
