The "fan" in question has been arrested since.
In the ultimate demonstration of why we (fans) can’t have nice things (meaningful interactions with our favorite celebrities), Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland left an event for the show early after she was groped by a fan. The harassment took place during a photo-op, when the “fan” somehow decided it would be appropriate to grab at Hyland’s breast.
Hyland left straight after, visibly upset by the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, speaking for E! News, Hyland immediately pushed the man in question away and screamed, "Don't touch me there!" before her security guards intervened. Understandably, the actress was visibly upset afterwards and reportedly teared up at one point.
Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in relation to the incident, according to E! News. A spokesperson for the police department tells E! News that "it is alleged that the man indecently assaulted the 23-year-old woman at about 7:50 p.m." After the incident, Hyland took to twitter to address her fans and explain the situation. She tweeted: "Sorry to all the fans outside the #quantas event that I didn't get to say hi to but I had to leave due to an inappropriate touch by a fan."
The actress later tweeted to explain the situation to her fans.
Her boyfriend, Matt Prokop, was a lot less gentle in his tweet about the assault: "To the a--hole who assaulted Sarah tonight I hope to God you don't see next week. All Sarah wanted to do tonight was say hit to he girls who were waiting outside one douche can ruin it for everyone. Goodnight."
