Sarah Harding says ending her relationship with fiance Tom Crane was the "hardest decision" she's ever made.
The Girls Aloud singer - who called off the couple's engagement after returning from a US rehabilitation centre where she was being treated for depression and alcoholism - hopes she can be "good friends" with the DJ in time.
She said: "You can't just switch that tap off and I hope that in time we can be good friends.
"The decision to split up with Tommy was the hardest I've ever had to make."
The 30-year-old star - who had booked a wedding venue and had a fitting for her dress before terminating the relationship - admitted while she still has "a lot of love" for her former flame, she has accepted they both need to "move on" and spend some time apart.
Sarah added in an interview with Britain's HELLO! magazine: "I still have a lot of love for Tom but we know it's not the right time for us. We have to move on and do what's best for us.
"As much as he wants me to be happy, I want him to be happy, whatever or wherever that may be. I want him to be successful and achieve his dreams and goals. I really hope he does because I genuinely still care."
