Classical singer Sarah Brightman has cancelled her upcoming North American tour after fracturing her ankle.

The Time to Say Goodbye performer was due to kick off the U.S. and Canadian leg of her Dreamchaser trek in Portland, Oregon on 1 August (14), but has now axed all the shows on doctors' orders after injuring herself.

A statement from the star reads, "I have suffered a hairline fracture to my ankle and have been advised by my doctors to rest it until September by which time it will have fully recovered.

"I have, regrettably, taken the decision to cancel my forthcoming U.S. dates in August. I truly apologise for any disappointment caused."

Brightman hit the road on the world tour last year (13).
