Irish actress Saoirse Ronan and Swedish newcomer Alicia Vikander have emerged as frontrunners to portray Cinderella in director Mark Romanek's much-anticipated movie adaptation of the beloved fairytale.
Following in the footsteps of this year's (12) two Snow White films - Snow White & The Huntsman and Mirror Mirror, the new film continues a Hollywood trend for fantasy tales.
Angelina Jolie is also working on a film version of Sleeping Beauty, titled Maleficent.
Cate Blanchett is in talks to play Cinderella's wicked stepmother in the Romanek movie for Disney.
Alongside Oscar nominee Ronan and Anna Karenina star Vikander, The Three Musketeers' Gabriella Wilde is also set to audition for the fairytale lead, according to Variety.
Ironically, Atonement star Ronan and Blanchett almost teamed up in another Disney fairytale adaptation - both were in talks to star in the aborted Snow White revamp Order of Seven, according to CinemaBlend.com.
