Samuel L Jackson has sailed under the radar somewhat during the promotion of 'The Avengers' - which looks set to have taken $400 million worldwide by Monday (May 7, 2012). The Hollywood veteran plays the eye-patch wearing leader Nick Fury, though it's been his co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo who have taken on the majority of promotional duties.
In one of his few interviews, Jackson told the Associated Press of his time in the comic book world, saying, "Joss (Whedon) is so savvy about the genre and how to flesh characters out so it's not just a set piece fest of stuff blowing up and people chasing each other... There's sadness, there's joy, there's fear, there's all this stuff that goes into making this film that makes it sort of special, way more special than it could have been". The 63-year-old has an excuse for his lack of appearances in the build-up to the movie's release - he's been working with Quentin Tarantino on his new movie 'Django Unchained', though claimed to have signed a "non-disclosure thing" preventing him from revealing details of the Western tale.
The actor is rumored to be starring in his own 'Nick Fury' movie, about the backstory of the Avengers captain. The film will reportedly follow Fury's rise from amateur boxer to his recruitment by the Army to put together a group of elite soldiers.
