The project will chronicle the battle in Turkey fought by Australian and New Zealand troops during World War I and will be told from the point of view of the war correspondents who covered the campaign, according to Variety.com.
A statement from Worthington reads, "This is a fresh take on the Gallipoli story, with these four journalists fighting the upper echelons of the military to get the truth out and stop the carnage."
Production on the project began on Monday (16Jun14) and the Australian mini-series will air in 2015 to coincide with the World War I Centenary commemorations.
Worthington will serve as a producer on the series.
The Gallipoli battle featured in Mel Gibson's 1981 film Gallipoli and Jeremy Irons and Sam Neill co-narrated a documentary about the carnage in 2005.
