Has the inspiration behind Sam Smith’s Grammy winning album of heartbreak finally been revealed? Well maybe, as according to reports in UK tabloid The Sun, the unrequited love who inspired many tracks on In The Lonely Hour was none other than the singer’s manager, Elvin Smith.

Earlier this month the British singer cleaned up at the Grammys, taking home four awards including Record of the Year, which he dedicated to an unnamed former love. "Thank you so much for breaking my heart because I got four Grammys," the singer said during his acceptance speech.

Elvin Smith, the rumoured inspiration behind the album, is still part of the singer’s management team and is described as being “married and straight”. In a prior interview with The Sun, Smith had said he'd come clean to his former love about his feelings.

"I know he loved me too, but not in that way,” the singer told the newspaper. "I've told him everything and our relationship is great now. I feel nothing towards him now. I'll always love him, but I'm not in love with him anymore.”

After his Grammy victory Smith jokingly told reporters, “I haven't had time (to call him yet) because I'm here, but I'll be seeing him soon. So I can let him touch the Grammys, ONCE.”

But moving back to the music, reportedly next on the agenda for Smith is a collaboration with The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes, which could take place later this year.

“'We've spoken about going into the studio before and I think it's quite likely going to happen over the next year,” The Daily Mail reports Smith as saying. “It’ll be insane. I think it'll be such a great opportunity to create something really cool.”
