British pop star Sam Smith has reportedly agreed to pay out royalties to rockers Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne over his hit single Stay With Me.

The track was released in April (14) and fans were quick to point out similarities between the chart hit and the 1989 song I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.

Petty and Lynne wrote the original, and Britain's The Sun on Sunday newspaper reports they will now both receive a writing credit on Smith's track, which is up for Best Pop Performance and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next month (Feb15).
