Film-maker Sam Mendes wants to spend more time in his native Britain and is planning to direct a play in London's West End, as well as setting his next movie there.
The American Beauty director, who is married to English actress Kate Winslet, hates spending all his time in the US and is keen to head-up a play after filming new movie JARHEAD reminded him of stage life.
The 40-year-old says, "I'd love to do a play, or rather I need to do a play and will do one in London."
"We rehearsed (for Jarhead) and then were stuck together in the desert for five months, so it was a bit like doing a run in the theatre - except the desert was a stage.
"I've done this trilogy of American films and it's time I did something closer to home. I'd love to work with an English cast."
