Director Sam Mendes insists his actress wife Kate Winslet deserves much of the credit for his new movie JARHEAD - because she waited patiently by his side throughout the movie's gruelling nine-month shoot.

The curvy actress, 29, even took children Mia and Joe to Los Angeles so Mendes could be surrounded by his family while he worked.

Mendes, who is now heading back to London with his brood, says, "I couldn't have done the film without Kate.

"She moved herself and the kids to Los Angeles for eight - or nearly nine - months for me and I love her for that.

"She put her career almost on hold to bring the kids so we could be a family. She's an incredible mother. She tries to do everything, and she did all this for me."
