Sam Mendes On Spectre, "Bond Is On The Hunt. On The Trail Of Somebody"

Sam Mendes

Sam Mendes has spoken in-depth for the first time about his reasons for returning to direct a second James Bond movie, saying he had unfinished business with the characters he began to carve in Skyfall. On the day that the first publicity shots of Dave Bautista as Mr Hinx and Lea Seydoux as Dr Madeleine Swann hit the web, Mendes hinted that 007 was on the hunt "from the very beginning."

"We've spent two years getting this together," said Daniel Craig while discussing the announcement of 'Spectre' "and there's been so much hard work and effort". For his fourth outing in the iconic role of James Bond, Craig will reunite with director Sam Mendes and the cast of 'Skyfall', as well as bringing an old foe back from the Sean Connery days.

When asked about the return of Mendes as the film's director, Craig responded by saying "He's the only guy for the job. He did such a wonderful job with 'Skyfall' and came down to do the next one and it just seemed to be the obvious choice." Following on from 'Skyfall' is not going to be an easy task, however, as the third film in the Bond reboot series made over 1 billion USD worldwide and took home two Academy Awards. Furthermore, the recent Sony hacks have revealed that 'Spectre' was supposedly coming in far over budget, and with a script that needed drastic work.

Here's Why Kevin Spacey Absolutely MUST Be The Next Bond Villain

Kevin Spacey Sam Mendes

Kevin Spacey fans were sincerely disappointed to hear that the actor wouldn’t be appearing as the villain in the next James Bond movie, which is due to be released in 2015. Spacey explained to BBC news: “I don’t know why people keep writing about this. I’ve been offered no role, I’ve never read a script, no, I am not doing the next James Bond movie.” He added, “I don’t know who started the rumour but stop it.”

Well, actually, it seems as though he started the rumour himself, back in 2012. When it was suggested that he would be up for the role of Bond villain, he told the Evening Standard: “I would hope [Bond producers] the Broccolis agree [that I would make a good Bond villain] and that Sam [Mendes] is going to do the next one. That would be a lot of fun. I adore him. I had some of the most seminal experiences of my career with him, both a decade ago with American Beauty and last year with Richard III.”

Would Irony Be A Step Back For Daniel Craig And James Bond?

Daniel Craig Sam Mendes

Daniel Craig says he's hoping to restore some of James Bond's traditional sense of irony in his next outing as 007, which reteams the actor with Skyfall director Sam Mendes.

Craig, who's previous outing as the secret agent is now the biggest grossing British film of all time, told Vulture magazine that the next movie might opt for a more tongue-in-cheek approach.

"Hopefully we'll reclaim some of the old irony.and make sure it doesn't become pastiche," he said, adding, "I can't do shtick, I'm not very good at it. Unless it kind of suddenly makes sense. Does that make sense? I sometimes wish I hammed it up more, but I just can't do it very well, so I don't do it."

British Films Kick In 15% To International Box Office - Down 2%

Daniel Craig Sam Mendes

The phenomenal success of Skyfall – Britain’s highest grossing film of all time - couldn’t stop a slump that saw the U.K’s contribution to the global box office fall 2% to 15%. It seems James Bond can save the world, but he can’t save Blighty’s movie industry. But don't take our word for it, right BBC?

Daniel CraigDaniel Craig will be Bond twice more

The British Film Institute said UK film releases took $5.3bn (£3.45bn) in 2012, which amounts to a 15.3% share of the world market. 2011 saw 17.2% of the country’s efforts make up the international box office pie. Looking forward, only the 24th Bond movie – which will see Skyfall director and Bond Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig team up again – is a viable candidate to push that figure up again.

Title Of New James Bond Movie: 'Devil May Care'?

Daniel Craig Sam Mendes IAN FLEMING James Bond Barbara Broccoli

The Sun's Bizarre has reported that the new James Bond movie, and follow-on from this year's enormously successful Skyfall, will be titled Devil May Care after Sebastian Faulk's 2008 novel which was written to celebrate a century since Bond creator IAN FLEMING's 1908 birth. Sam Mendes, after originally saying he wouldn't return to direct the 24th Bond film, has been confirmed as the director to the Skyfall sequel.

Daniel Craig
Like Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig Will Also Return For The 24th Bond Movie.

Although no title has been confirmed yet, Daniel Craig is expected to return as the titular Bond for the fourth time, despite the next film rumoured to be the 45 year-old actor's last after Skyfall showed the spy aging in an increasingly technological world. Bond fans shouldn't hold their breath for the next instalment of 007 adventures - due to Mendes' theatre commitments the as-yet untitled 24th Bond film will be released in late 2015. There's no wonder that producer's were happy to accommodate Mendes' other plans into the timeframe for the next film: 2012's Skyfall was the most successful Bond to date, making £720 million ($1.1 billion) worldwide, winning two Oscars and being named 'Outstanding British Film' by BAFTA.

Sam Mendes Signs For ‘Bond 24,’ Though John Logan’s Return Is Key

Sam Mendes John Logan Daniel Craig Barbara Broccoli Javier Bardem

James Bond fans received the news they’d be waiting for on Thursday – Sam Mendes would be returning for the twenty-fourth 007 movie, following the huge success of Skyfall.

Given his theatre commitments, it was assumed that the Oscar-winning director would be unable to helm the follow-up to the biggest grossing British movie in history – though he appears to have found a gap in his schedule to direct the next Bond for an October 23, 2015 release date.

Daniel Craig – often considered the finest Bond actor in history – had delayed his decision to return for his fourth movie, though the return of Mendes will see him don the tuxedo once again.
