Sam Claflin is in talks to star in 'Rogue One'.

The 28-year-old actor is reportedly set to join 'The Theory Of Everything' actress Felicity Jones in the first instalment of the 'Star Wars: Anthology' films.

In addition to the 'The Hunger Games' star, 'Nightcrawler' actor Riz Ahmed is also said to have entered into negotiations, a source has told The Wrap.

Meanwhile, director Gareth Edwards recently shed some light on the new series of stand alone films, with 'Rogue One' being set in the Star Wars universe in between Episode III and IV and running parallel to the franchise's main storyline.

He said: ''It's basically in an era where there are no Jedi, where they're all but extinct. It's about the fact that God's not coming to save us.

''We're on our own and we have to do this ourselves. The absence of Jedi is omnipresent in the film, it hangs over the whole movie. It comes down to a group of individuals who don't have special powers but have to bring hope and justice to the galaxy.''

The movie is due to be released in December 2016, which is a year after 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.
