Sam Claflin Discusses Facing Body Shaming On Movie Sets

Sam Claflin

British actor Sam Claflin has become quite the household name in the past few years, whether it's because of his role in the 'Hunger Games' movie franchise or 'Me Before You', or something else entirely. Though we've seen him sans shirt in those roles, it's not as easy as stripping down on the set for the actor, who's now opened up about his insecurities following body shaming he faced on Hollywood movie sets.

For many, the issue of body shaming is one that is simply an issue for women, but Claflin says that this isn't the case. Drawing back on his own experiences, he told of how he had been poked and prodded in the past because of his body shape.

My Cousin Rachel - Trailer & Featurette

Philip is a typical young English gent, except that he has a deepening desire for revenge burning in his heart. He believes that his strangely dark cousin Rachel Ashley has killed his guardian Ambrose for his money, only it's Philip that receives the inheritance in the end, not Rachel. When she arrives in England, Philip accepts her warily into his home, but despite all evidence against her, he can't help himself falling for her beauty and her grace. She's clearly an intelligent and deceptive woman, and everyone else can see that she is only charming Philip to achieve her own selfish ends. But it really doesn't matter how much he is warned about her by those closest to him - particularly Louise Kendall - he's only falling deeper under her spell.

Their Finest Trailer

It's the early 1940s and World War II is in full swing. Bombs are raining down on London in the Blitzkrieg threatening to tear the country in two, but the British are made of sturdier stuff. Catrin Cole is a writer who comes to realise that the absence of ambitious young men in the workplace due to recruitment into the army has opened a door for her. She is appointed by the film division of the Ministry of Information to write the supplementary women's dialogue of a new propaganda film about Dunkirk, however she is told that she'll get no screen credit and won't be paid as much as her male counterparts. She goes one step further and writes the whole script, impressing all involved if leaving them a little indignant. Plus, she finds an unlikely ally in an aging film star named Ambrose Hilliard, who longs for the days he had major roles.

Me Before You Review

OK

With a story that links together every cliche from the weepy chick-flick library, this movie uses its doomed romance premise to reduce every woman in the audience into floods of tears. Adapted by author Jojo Moyes from her bestselling novel, the movie will work its trickery on its target audience, and it will just about keep others interested, thanks to engaging central performances by Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin.

It's set in a picture-perfect British village located next to the ruins of a picturesque castle, where the quirky Louisa (Clarke) has just lost her job as a waitress in a tearoom. But her parents (Brendan Coyle and Samantha Spiro) need her income to make ends meet, so she takes a job with the village's most prominent couple (Janet McTeer and Charles Dance), caring for their son Will (Claflin), who was a high-flying banker until he was hit by a motorbike and paralysed. Working alongside Will's nurse Nathan (Stephen Peacocke), Louisa struggles to connect with the relentlessly surly Will, who believes that there's no point with going on with his life. But Louisa is determined to help him find some hope.

Everything that happens on the way to the unnerving conclusion is deeply predictable, because we've seen it all in movies from Bridget Jones to The Fault in Our Stars. Even the gently wacky romance feels oddly by-the-book, shifting from interested sideways glances to another smiley montage sequence to contrived comedy and gloomy drama. Thankfully, Clarke and Claflin breathe life into these characters, adding personality details and a spark of chemistry that helps the audience feel the connection developing between Louisa and Will. Of the supporting cast, only Peacocke manages to give his character a sense that he has a life off the screen. And it's nice to see Downton Abbey's Coyle against type.

Emilia Clarke Details Escalating Prank Warfare With Sam Claflin On Set Of 'Me Before You'

Emilia Clarke Sam Claflin

Emilia Clarke has revealed the details of a prank war with her Me Before You co-star Sam Claflin while they filming last year.

The 29 year old ‘Game of Thrones’ star is currently promoting the new movie, in which she is the co-star alongside fellow British actor Claflin (The Huntsman and The Hunger Games). Apparently, despite the sombre nature of the movie, the set also became the battleground of an escalating prank war.

Me Before You Trailer

Up until his recent accident that left him almost entirely paralysed, William Traynor has had a perfect life. He's rich, intelligent and always seeking a new adventure, though now he feels like his life has come to an end. He finds himself in the family house being nannied by his mother and staff. To put an end to his current state, Will decides that he wants to end his life in a clinic. With his mother understandably distraught over his choice, Will agrees to wait six months before committing to his decision.

Louisa Clark is a young local woman who lives a life completely different to Will. Though she doesn't have much self-belief, she's incredibly upbeat, likes her small town ways and has never felt the need to go out and discover the world. When Louisa is left jobless, she pays a visit to the job centre (a place that she's a little too accustom to) and her advisor finds a new listing (for a care giver) that might just be a perfect job for Louisa. Louisa visits the Traynor family estate and Will's mum decides that Louisa and her positivity might just be the ray of sunshine that he needs.

Whilst Will is initially reluctant to allow Louisa into his life, over the course of the following weeks, he can't help but be enamoured by her charm. Their relationship grows and grows but when Lousia finds out about Will's choices for the future, will she be able to convince Will that there is something to live for?

'Love, Rosie' Tries Another Rom-Com Twist

Lily Collins Sam Claflin Juliette Towhidi

While some filmmakers are happy to rely on the same old formula, others are forever seeking a new approach to a tired genre. And with its nagging predictability, there isn't a trickier genre to refresh than the romantic comedy, because everyone knows that there's only one way these movies can possibly end.

Lily Collins and Sam Claflin in 'Love, Rosie'
Are Lily Collins and Sam Claflin stuck in the friend zone in 'Love, Rosie'?

With the British rom-com 'Love, Rosie', director Christian Ditter and Juliette Towhidi, adapting Cecilia Ahern's novel, have a distinctly unusual premise even if the conclusion is rather foregone. This is the story of two lifelong friends who are clearly attracted to each other but neglect to reveal their feelings, sending their lives in very different directions.

Dark Drama 'The Riot Club' Is Never Dull, But Lacks Bite

Max Irons Sam Claflin

The Riot Club, formerly known as 'Posh' and based on Laura Wade's 2010 play, is a difficult movie to unpick. Some early cinemagoers have spoken of feeling mixed emotions - this is ultimately a satire of the debauched private society Bullingdon Club, though Lone Scherfig's movie makes it difficult to despise these young men, effortlessly portrayed by Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth.

The Riot ClubThe Riot Club features an energetic, talented young cast

"It's a sharp satirical cartoon of English class warfare and class conspiracy - though it fudges a final point of plot-jeopardy and I suspect a director like Thomas Vinterberg or Lars von Trier would have made it a hardcore nightmare," said Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian.

'The Riot Club' Is Far More Than A Posh Knees Up

Sam Claflin Max Irons

The Riot Club, a richly observed satire from Lone Scherfig, is one of several strong British movies to hit the big screen in September and its young cast - particularly Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth - ensure this has a serious sting in its tail.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 Trailer

President Snow has a message for the people of Panem in a mock propaganda clip and the first The Hunger Games: Mockingjay teaser. Appearing dressed in white and sitting on a white throne in a white room, Snow addresses the citizens of Panem with a message. "Since the dark days, our nation has known only peace," he begins.

"Your hard work feeds us and in return we feed and protect you," Snow continues. "But if you resist the system you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed." The camera pans out and we see sweet Peeta standing blank-faced next to the President.

In the movie, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is living in District 13 after bringing down The Hunger Games. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore), Katniss embarks on a quest to save her beloved friend Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and the nation.

The Quiet Ones Trailer

Professor Coupland is an Oxford University physics professor in the seventies, who understands and accepts that supernatural episodes occur - though he has his own theories on how they're manifested. Ghosts and phantoms are nonsense in his opinion and he gathers up his team to set out on a dangerous experiment to prove that poltergeist activity is caused by strong negative energy emitting from humans - usually children. However, on their quest to collect photographic evidence of paranormal phenomena by creating their own poltergeist, their young female subject appears to become traumatised after being left alone for a short period of time. She starts to experience a strange presence near her and the experimenters struggle to contemplate just what evil they have unleashed with their controversial testing.

The Hangover III

The big global release this week is The Hangover Part III, and the cast has been jetting around the world for premieres in Los Angeles and London, where fans screamed at actors Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Ken Jeong as they paraded up the red carpet. The critical response hasn't been quite as positive.

The 66th Cannes Film Festival winds down this weekend in France. Critics are praising new films by Steven Soderbergh (Behind the Candelabra starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon), Alexander Payne (Nebraska with Bruce Dern) and the Coen Brothers (Inside Llewyn Davis with break-out actor Oscar Isaac). They weren't so thrilled by Ryan Gosling's reunion with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for Only God Forgives, although they praised costar Kristin Scott Thomas for going far against type.

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have become symbols of hope to the people of the dystopic Panem after becoming the first pair to win the 74th Annual Hunger Games in a brutal battle to the death between two teenagers of each of the 12 famished districts. Now is the time they must leave their families to tackle a 'Victor's Tour' of each district. However, the President sees her as a threat to their capitalist society and vows to have her killed, but first to make the people of every district turn against her. Rebellion appears to be arising among the people and Katniss just wants to get through the tour safely. Snow White And The Huntsman Review

Weak
There's an oddly over-serious tone to this fairy tale, as if the filmmakers thought they were making a massive action epic on par with The Lord of the Rings. But the plot has all the complexity of, well, a bedtime story. And a little more camp attitude would have helped.

After the gorgeous Ravenna (Theron) marries and then murders a benevolent widower king, she locks his beautiful daughter Snow White (Stewart) in a tower.

All the better to continue draining the youth from the entire kingdom. But just as she prepares to take the now of-age Snow's heart, Snow escapes into the woods, and Ravenna hires huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) to find her. Of course, Eric switches sides when he finds her, joining with Snow's childhood sweetheart William (Claflin) and a gang of dwarves to end the evil queen's reign.

The Evil Queen, Ravenna, is very beautiful but very deadly. Early in her reign, she despaired over 'battles fought and lives lost' but now, she draws strength from the cries of war. Each day, she looks in her magic mirror and asks 'who is the fairest of them all?' The answer is always her.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Review

Very Good
Captain Jack Sparrow is back for another high seas romp and, despite the long running time, this is more freewheeling comedy than action adventure. And while it's hilarious fun, it's also so meandering that it's a bit dull.

In London, Jack (Depp) is brought before George II (Griffiths) so he can help the Brits beat the Spanish to the Fountain of Youth. But after an elaborate escape, Jack ends up in the crew of the ship captained by the evil Blackbeard (McShane) and his daughter Angelica (Cruz), with whom Jack has a past. So now Blackbeard, the Spanish and the British, led by Jack's old nemesis/pal Barbossa (Rush), are racing to the Caribbean to find the secret of immortality. And their first task is to capture a mermaid.
